Why can't Gundyr fall off the stage?
In previous Dark Souls games bosses were just as susceptible to falling off the stage as the player. The Iron Golem and Ceaseless Discharge from Dark Souls and the first Dragon Rider fight from Dark Souls 2 come to mind. But here in 3, Gundyr has a special boss only invisible wall that keeps him from being parried or baited off the map. Why is that?

Because the boss falling off the edge probably wasn't intended. Lol.

In Dark Souls 1, both were intended. You could stagger the Iron Golem and if he took enough damage, he's fall backwards on his butt, but if he was on the small bridge, he'll fall over the side and die. Ceaseless Discharges case was coded in, he'd actually leap off the boss arena if you tried to go back to the fog gate and grab onto the ledge where you could then smack his fingers and he'd lose his grip and fall to his death.

I'm just saying the game sort of lets veterans think, oh hey, maybe I can get this boss to fall off the map, only to find out no, he has an invisible wall just for him.

Im happier that the default strategy for killing him isn't cheesing him off the map. Actually fighting the boss means I actually have to learn the fight, aside from trying to get him to fall off the map.

I noticed that too and that is a shame, cause it really felt good fighting him

It's called getting good. You got good, and he's no longer hard.

Nope they both were intended, I was really impressed when I first knocked the iron golem off the room in DarkSouls 1 because he has a proper animation for falling off, not like most enemies which just slide to their death.

The fact that discharge had a scripted animation doesn't mean everything without a scripted animation was unintentional. Describing how to knock a boss off the ledge doesn't make you an authority on whether or not it was intended. Lol
if only your boss fight had ledges Gwyn.

Agreed, only increase in ease has been due to my own increase in skill in my experience.
