How do we escape grab attacks?
seriously, I already searched and I found people saying that you have to mash the trigger buttons. it hasn't worked once for me. I tried with mimics, with those giant rat-like things and against the dancer boss, but it hasn't worked once.
can please someone who knows precisely how to do it tell me? thanks.

edit: to clarify: I don't mean "dodge", but "escape after they got you".

edit #2: the final answer is
the only escapable grab is the stray demon's. video by VaatiVidya: https://youtu.be/hzatGZFlI-s?t=405

If it's the dancer just stare at her ass and it'll make it 10x easier, trust me.

I DS 1 and 2 mimics always lunge and grab victims when they are first attacked, thats why the jaw swings open before they lunge (aka telegraphed). Not gonna lie. I expected the same mechanic on the first mimic I hit and booked it across the room, they don't do that in this game though lol.
Its model didn't touch the player hitting the mimic at all though, which is what the complaint was. I've had that happen to me as well and was just baffled more than anything.
Yeah but Lee is the sort of person I was making jreffering to there.

Even if you are behind an enemy, getting teleported 10 feet forwards in front of them is "Your fault, game is perfect". (I've also seen videos of groups of phantoms where the guy acting as the bait in front is ignored, while the guy behind it gets grabbed instead).

Great games can still have flaws. But if you don't give 110% hotdog gobbling praises, clearly you just hate the game to those with that mindset.

bump?

I've been grabbed by one of these mad goats today, I mashed the trigger buttons (all 4) and it dealt me way less damage than the last time it happened to me (which was many levels ago, though). the first time I got grabbed by that enemy, one grab took me half my health, while today it took 20% or less. my armor was either lighter than the first time or not much heavier (depends on if the first time I had on the anti-poison outfit. I can't remember).

taking less damage kinda counts as escaping. has anyone ever reduced the damage gotten from mimics, or from those giant rat-cats? if yes, how?

spamming never saved me from a mimic, but if may have reduced the damage. there is just sooo meny hits though.

Not sure if it counts but i saw my brother escape a mimic chest by rolling away. Maybe there is a strict window for escaping?

I know this won't help matters, but I've had the Stray Demon on top of the Abyss Watchers covenant just... let go of me, instead of throwing me.

Does he not always throw you after? Does he sometimes figure it's not worth the effort and and just lazily drop you out of his hand?

Of course the game also has it's share of bugs. Such as how wonky the Crystal Sage boss can be, and when I was fighting the Catacombs Boss, when he summoned bonewheel skeletons they were completly invincible (Invincible bonewheels did about 90% of the damage I took that fight, while finishing off the boss).

I've noticed some people I go against in PVP can riposte me even if I don't throw an attack at them (and I'm sure they did not kick me), is there a weapon/ability that can do this? LIke, I'll be waiting for a good opening to strike, then suddenly I'm stumbling backward and a sword goes through my chest, I have no idea how people are doing it. It happens like maybe 1/20 invasions. I know it's probably not a "grab attack" but it did remind me to ask.

Aside from kicks breaking your guard if you lose enough stamina, there are various weapon arts that have guard break propertes. Such as the R1 attack on most "Stance" weapons. (And then the game decides rubbing my crotch against theirs isn't close enough to do a riposte attack welp).

Even the Broken sword can do it, though it's much harder becaus it's such garbage sometimes I've connected with it and they were just fine. I've always caused a stagger against normal shields with my Flamberge though, for example.

Errr I escaped Stay Demon's grab without taking damage (or only a tiny amount, don't remember) when I mashed R1 and L1. Seems to work.

(should've watched the video b4 replying lol)

update: I just fought the nameless king as a summon and he impaled me. I mashed the trigger buttons and I didn't take any damage even if the animation was the same. soo, maybe we can add that one to the list of grab attacks that you can escape even though the animation doesn't change (there's the dancer's grab attack too).
