penalized players multiplayer forum

So, I was a victim of the penalization as well because i had made some progress offline, I would never hack dark souls. I was posting this to see if anyone who was also penalized wished to play at all, because i found out you can play with other people who have been penalized. If anyone wanted to, let me know! I'd love to be able to play multiplayer again, maybe help some people out. Until the issue is fixed, this is probably the best way to find people.

basically, a bunch of people have been penalized (banned) from normal multiplayer because of unknown reasons, most speculate it with having made progress offline then resuming into online again. You can tell because it says in the announcement window when you start the game. You can only summon other players who have been affected by this, and vice versa. I am looking for other legitimate players who fell victim to this to be able to play with.

huge amounts of players have been wrongly banned. From admitted this is an issue and they are working to correct it.

it's a bug that has been affecting a lot of players, saying that "invalid data" exists on their account.

Apparently people have been reporting they get the invalid data warning for playing offline then going back to online.

I thought they were looking into it. Never heard that they said they are aware of an issue. No doubt that the system is broken, though. I highly doubt it's just because of playing offline, though. Otherwise, tons of people would have gotten banned the last time steam went down and everybody was forced offline.

All these people complaining they've gotten "banned" or "penalized" for absolutely no reason. How come I 200+ hours and haven't been banned for playing the game legitimately yet?
How come none of my friends have been banned for playing the game legitimately yet?

- "Oh I got banned the other day because I played the game in offline mode".
- "I plugged in my PS3/PS4 controller and got banned, WTH From?"

It's laughable. Just laughable.

this is a reddit forum which is basically like a masterpost, there's a few sources, as well as more people who have encountered the bug.

So unless something happens to you, it's impossible? From is known for being bad at pc development. The idea that their ban system is imperfect is far from shocking, even if I haven't been banned.

Nothing official from Fromsoft in there and the dude even mentioned how an external program of his tried messing with the DS.exe, pretty obvious why he got banned.

Hasn't happened to me, hasn't happened to any of my friends. I've got friends who play on both PC and console, still hasn't happened. So no, I doubt it's possible to get banned for using a PlayStation controller. I doubt it's possible to get banned because you play the game in offline mode.

We don't know the cause. People are guessing at it being offline mode or controllers. It clearly can't just be them, because some people apparently got the invalid data warning before they even had a chance to make a character.
