If you git gud they are really good and you will kill people before they can swing.
It's not slow it's just as fast as Longsword beacuse of the lag if you both swing at the same time you will land your hit on him either way beacuse of hyper armor or most of the time he will hit you once and you will get 2 hits beacuse of poise.
You're supposed to be the one baiting attack and dodging.
Stamina management is important for any weapon it's not hard at all just be less aggresive just like my previous point stated.
Sure with proper play I'd expect you can make it work, at least against people of lesser skill and/or those also using a "sub-optimal" weapon. But I'm personally not fond of them.
(Speaking of the "greatsword" class of weapons, not the UGS From still likes to name the Greatsword)
Poise isn't "broken" it just works differently now. And most people, myself included, don't fully understand exactly how it works now. Take your little katana and hit someone who has hyper armor on their Fume UGS or BKGA swing.. and you're gonna have a bad time.
I love my claymore and won several PVPs but longswords are really op this time around. Even more them on ds2.
But I also think they will get nerffed eventually since too much people are using them.
However, I've yet to have gotten a Flamberge. So I can't exactly answer your question. Go with the one that has better scaling. Or just go with whichever looks cooler to you.
From what's been tested, it does absolutely nothing. It doesn't grant you any hyperarmor during rolls or attacks, it certainly doesn't prevent stagger. It's just plain turned off and a useless stat, and heavy armor doesn't provide enough protection to be worthwhile in PvP.
All that being said, I prefer the claymore compared to the flamberge as its moveset is a little more versatile. Like people above me have commented, you can't ignore the power of the one handed thrust attack. Parry, then charge the R1 and catch them on the roll. With a hornet ring you'll be doing around 1100 damage for the combo. Game over.
