Is there a method to kill the Ancient Wyvern without the intended method?

I'm trying to do a run where I only use whips, which sadly do not have a plunging attack. Therefore, I cannot do the usual method of insta-killing the boss with a plunging attack. I've tried just a straight up fight, but I do so little damage. The boss doesn't seem to be able to be poisoned or suseptible to bleed.

Anyone have any ideas? Only thing I can think of is having some jolly cooperation, and have someone else do the plunging attack for me.

Seems like bad game design to make the boss nigh unkillable with certain builds

You "can" kill it from below I believe, but it has massive damage resistance - though I believe the head takes a bit more damage. Before I knew you were supposed to run past it (and long before I knew about the plunge attack) I spent 15 minutes getting it down to half health before I finally gave up on it.

I mean, you could just grab a non-upgraded dagger and do a plunge attack or something. I think it insta-kills regardless of what you use, though I could be wrong.

The head takes like x100 the damage.

The plunge is an instant kill no matter what weapon you use as long as it can plunge. It also isnt really bad design, this is a 100% completely optional area, the main progression through the game works fine with just about any build. Don't expect optional areas to conform to you.

Yes. You can do something by the structre to the immediate left as the fight starts, bait his breath and then hit the head (that is regularly vulnerable), kill it with arrows (yes, it is more than possible, Elajazz even made a bow only run yesterday. Not even Yhorm is hard because the developers included staggers, that he used for critical hits, and ripostes for you to actually beat him regularly). Same with Wyvern. Though Wyvern is much more boring than Yhorm to fight with ranged weapons.

Yeah beat it a while ago without realising that you could use plunging attack.

I lured it to the stairs on the right side as you enter. Once there it will do one of 4 attacks. Straight breath, Sideways breath, Going into the Air and breathing underneat and the jaw snap. I'd stay out of reach of his snapping attack, bait a straight breath, at which point I'd run to the side of his head an hit it 2-3 times. For the sideways breath ran to the left side of its neck and unlaoded.

I'd also fire off a few arrows when he'd take off to do an underneath breath.

This is what i did. took about 5/10 mins

I was. Well i quickly checked and it was something about the whyvern in archdragon peak.
