Is there a method to kill the Ancient Wyvern without the intended method?

I'm trying to do a run where I only use whips, which sadly do not have a plunging attack. Therefore, I cannot do the usual method of insta-killing the boss with a plunging attack. I've tried just a straight up fight, but I do so little damage. The boss doesn't seem to be able to be poisoned or suseptible to bleed.

Anyone have any ideas? Only thing I can think of is having some jolly cooperation, and have someone else do the plunging attack for me.

Seems like bad game design to make the boss nigh unkillable with certain builds

Buy a dagger +0 and then kill it.

If you don't mind, you can just plunging attack with bare fist to 1 shot it.
Well, you can attack it's legs for couple minutes too :p

You can damage and kill the boss straight up with all weapons, it's just going to be very difficult due to it's high health. I killed it that way during my first playthrough because I didn't realize you were supposed to use a plunging attack

I dont think this is bad design, all dark souls series you will find just that, your build or strategy must change allways, for me that is why the game is marvelous, because it is never repetitive... and you must change to win

I actually tried that but then i remembered the yhorm fight and i was like ... there's something awefully wrong with this ... Let me just go check.

It isn't bad game design if you're going out of your way to gimp yourself. Just use a different weapon for the plunge and push forward with your dumb whips.

You can kill him quite easily with a bow. Go all the way up and instead of doing a plunging attack, jump on the wooden floor and you should be able to shoot his face with your bow. It takes around 30 arrows to poison him and around 200 arrow to kill him.

I missed my jump and this is how i killed the mighty dragon <3

I actually liked the area and "boss fight"

Yeah beat it a while ago without realising that you could use plunging attack.

I lured it to the stairs on the right side as you enter. Once there it will do one of 4 attacks. Straight breath, Sideways breath, Going into the Air and breathing underneat and the jaw snap. I'd stay out of reach of his snapping attack, bait a straight breath, at which point I'd run to the side of his head an hit it 2-3 times. For the sideways breath ran to the left side of its neck and unlaoded.

I'd also fire off a few arrows when he'd take off to do an underneath breath.

I didn't say it was bad it's unique i guess.

It's bad beacuse you can't plunge attack with some weapons.

Atleast that area is not needed for any of the endings soo speedrunners who do whip only or bow only don't need to do it.

Took me less than 15 minutes. The snake people on the way up gave me more problems tbh.
