Longsword weapon art - Question
So I was fighting a guy in PvP, and it was a pretty awesome battle. Well, near the climax of the fight, he swapped to a shield. Naturally, I put my longsword into the stance weapon art. After using my guard break attack (Which I know from experience ALWAYS breaks guards) it pinged off of his shield and I died from it. Now, I know I had enough focus points to use the attack. Are there any shields that have enough stamina to resist the guardbreaking weapon art?

It could be you were not close enough to him perhaps? I haven't encountered this myself. Or did he use a greatshield?

Yeah, he was using a greatshield. I've guardbroken people using them before, so I figured it would work again this time. Apparently not.

I haven't tested this myself, but it could be that the guardbreak is actually an attack that breaks through a certain amount of stability. Some greatshields have really insane stability (80+) and if he was using one of those it could be that the art isn't good enough for it. Perhaps if you search on google you might find someone with details on this.

I've had the issue with my Claymore's shield break weapon art myself.

Either high enough stability or high enough stamina, maybe a mix, makes it not a guarentee.

The guy I fought had a 85 stability shield and 40 endruance, the shield break into 2 R1s apparently put him to about 5% stamina left, but it never broke it.

I think that it does a fixed amount of stamina damage. If he has a very high stability shield or a ton of stamina I think he could tank it. I know you can tank a kick if you have a lot of stamina. And stamina is not correlated to the shield btw. Stability determines how much stamina damage you take and that IS connected to the shield
