Pontiff Sulyvahn is the hardest boss in the whole Dark Souls series.

This guy nearly gave me a cancer. He's the hardest boss that I've encountered so far in the whole DS series. It's not like it took me ♥♥♥♥load of times to beat him, I just couldn't figure him out, and to be honest I'm still not exactly sure how he is attacking. Some of his follow up attacks are crazily unpredictable, also in some cases it becomes a total cluster♥♥♥♥ when he moves into second phase. I can imagine that it could be the boss that a lot of new DS players would give up on and use a help of a sunbro. Imo Fume knight was a piece of cake compared to that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Do you find him so hard as well or is it just me?

EDIT: I've completed the game and he still stands as the hardest boss for me. :P

The pontif is basically a dps check.

He's stupid hard if you can't do enough damage to kill his double pretty much immediately. If you can, he's a mid-tier boss, difficulty wise.

For me, I was underleveled when I encountred him due to one or two shotting most of the previous bosses. I'd say Pontiff is offically the point where the game starts to get more challenging, if you've very used to Souls games.

I don't agree I oneshotted him without killing his double, just parry and dodge.

For people that found oceiros hard just dodge and do 1 hit punished after his charges if your using a slow weapon and 2-3 hit combose for fast/medium

I think Manus is still reigning most difficult boss for me. I got Pontiff Sulyvahn on the second go (he completely trashed me on the first one), even though it was admittedly a simultaneous doublekill.

If you have a fast weapon and time your rolls, you're mostly all right, the flunkyism notwithstanding.

For me the hardest boss was the Soul of Cinder, and actually Pontiff just killed me like 8 times, but man the Soul of Cinder omg, so many attempts

Lol it is so awesome how different bosses are harder for different people..... Pontif was like a 2-3 try boss for me, but ♥♥♥♥ THAT ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ FACE ICY BRIDGE DOG!!!!!

It ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me first in DS1 with artorias's dog, then again in DS2 Icy DLC, and now AGAIN IN DS3 IT REARS ITS UGLY HEAD!!!

Loool. I don't remember it giving me any trouble, but it did spook the ♥♥♥♥ out of me when it dropped out of nowhere. It was early in the morning and I'm like...."Tell me why Guts is out here trying to tear me another bootyheauxl."

thats not the point of souls. This is not BB, you cant just a cater a fight to one handed users. And just give the middle ifger to every other build.

I actually found Champion Gundyr to be the hardest boss, and not in a good way... he's super cheap, as far as I'm concerned. Random kicks and shoulder-checks that can be tacked on after every move with no telegraph? Yeah, real fair. I beat him on my first attempt, but I still feel like I lost because I used all my estus.

It's not the only way to fight him. I don't know what the contention is.

All boss fights, and even common enemies, are going to have AI that challenge the player and their playstyle at some point. Movesets can either work to your favour or detriment; it's up to the player to negotiate the best way for them to defeat an enemy.

To be fair, Sif absolutely kicked my ass the first time I played DkSI.

I found out later that this was partially because I was apparently did a bit of sequence breaking (I fought her before getting to Anor Londo, and before even knowing I needed the ring), and I wasn't so great at dodging.

Combine that with the fact I favour/ed slow weapons (zweihander in that case)...man, I never have been so close to ragequitting a game.

That being said, the second phase of the Nameless King whoops my arse so hard. That's a tough fight. Also Lorian. That fight is epic but hard. I love this game!!

When I first took down fume knight he was easily the hardest boss I've ever had to fight. After I started a new character months later I learned how to dodge properly. He went from being the hardest to easy lol.

Nothing compares to Nameless king in the Souls series. It's the only boss besides Ornstein and Smough that nearly gave me cancer. Playing without summons ofc, he farmed me for 3 hours.
