What Are Oni?
Oni in Japanese mythology are trolls or giants but it's hinted they are Dragons in DS3 and the Storm Drake may be one. Maybe we'll see a true Oni boss in the DLC? :D

Not the best with Japanese mythology, but can oni be a generic term for demons or monsters? If so, it could be what Shiva's and Alonne's home region calls their demons (Capra Oni, Taurus Oni, etc.).

Oni are a bit hard to pin down in terms of definition, at least for me. I've been told the word refers specifically to a type of ogre, but I've also heard it used as a general term for demons/monsters.
I don't speak Japanese, nor do I know any native speakers, so I can't really confirm.
Japanese stuff in general is wonky for English-speaking folk to interpret.
In general, though, it seems to mean big ogre-type things, which could totally exist in Dark Souls' universe.

Horned Oni in this case are most likel Dragons that came from the eastern mountains. Anyone can use regular arrows on demons, but Greatarrows (Onislayer) seem to be specifically reserved for Dragons in this case.

They're typically Demons or some kind of monster.
I've never heard Oni refer to dragons, and Japanese sure as hell don't refer to them that way, unless they don't know what it actually is at the time, and are referring to it as some kind of unidentifiable monster. In which case, Oni isn't the word they would use.

So in this case, I would say Oni refers to demons.

Please stop assuming things based solely on Vaati's ineptitude in word researching.

Wow how the hell did you even come up with that stupid idea? Onislayer bow? Is that why? The most common Oni descriptions in Japanese books or arts look like a 1-horned cyclop.

most likely explanation is that the japanese version specifically used 鬼 "Oni" only that one time, and another word for demons all the other times.

and then it's never mentioned again or explained why, because Dark Souls.

Well, as the description said, they are giant horned demons.
But no, they do not have wings, and no, they are not dragons.
I do like Vaati's lore videos and such, but he is very wrong in this case.
