♥♥♥♥, i don't know. Smough's great hammer maybe?
There are some "weird" weapons that puzzle sword from DkS2, but that's not ugly, that's actually quiet unique. I really liked the idea of a sword that can act as whip through some ass-magic.
How the hell do they work, anyway?
No magnets work like that... Unless i don't understand something in this world. What kind of magnet will always magnetise back into the original form no matter what happens? And character definetely shown the ability to manipulate those magnets at will as shown with the the puncturing stab attack of R2. Character makes no move, yet sword leaps forwards for no apparent reason.
So yes. Magic is in there somewhere for sure.
Just did some quick googling. apparently zweilhanders were often used in combat, and the smallest ones were approx 5ft long and weighed a ton, with some reaching well over 6ft long blades.
so doesn't seem unrealistic at all, I mean look a the famous William Wallace sword, that things 5.5ft long by itself, which technically in game makes it about as long as our ultra greatswords. and it's not like their the biggest people in the world yet they effectively used it in combat.
Zweihander is the most realistic UGS in DkS. Astora too, it's basically a reskin.
However both of these were haavily intended for two-hand use.
The sword of Abyss Watchers, also could work, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do they swing it nicely with just one hand.
And i'm not sure if the dagger-trick could work irl. But i would lie if i didn't say that it looks freakin' amazing.
You forgot the Titante Catchpole.
#NeverForgetti
I swear some old warriors from viking days must have used obscenely large battle axes. and I vaguely remember back in history classes (some 15 years ago mind) that some Japanese warriors were famous for wielding stupidly large maces/hammers. so much that they literially crushed entire people due to sheer size/weight.
I'm a bit of a geek for cool historical stuff. remember reading a book about Chinese legendary warriors, there was like one guy xiahou something that got hit in the eye by an arrow, something that would probably kill most people.
instead of dying, he laughed, pulled out the arrow (along with his eyeball) ate the eyeball and charged straight at the enemy..
plus tales of some legendary generals that slaughtered thousands of soldiers by themselves. quite remarkable really.
Historical greatswords weren't monstrously heavy, though; they couldn't be. Even with big swords, speed is paramount in real sword fighting. They were never more than 14 pounds, and most were much less.
Most longswords weighed around 2 pounds, maybe a little more. They weren't heavy at all.
Nothing like Dark Souls 3's Greataxe ever existed.
One of my favorite weapons in DS3 is the Astora Greatsword. Not entirely because of the amazing moveset, but also because it's the most realistic greatsword in any FromSoft game IMO. A big glaring problem I've noticed with most swords in these games is the cylindrical grips alongside their thickness. No sword should have a cylindrical grip. The reason being that without an oval, rectangle, or diamond shape, you can't properly feel the edge alignment of the weapon and thus be a lot less effective and inconsistent with cutting. The Astora Greatsword actually has a diamond shaped grip, and a very realistic shape minus the thickness of the blade.
EDIT: Of course the Zweihander and Lost Sinner's Sword aren't bad either in terms of realism.
therefore it is an anime
therefore(x2) large weapons make sense
I'm not talking about the Dragonslayer Axe. That one looks really nice. The greataxe though has the big concave looking blade shape and rocky look. In fact, I should probably just add most greataxes to the 'unrealistic' list.
