Pyromancy is absolutely worthless
Don't let the badass youtube montages distract you boys: Pyromancy is worth nothing at all.

I am doing pvp at SL90 behind the Pontiff bonfire and I think I have a 2:2:10 rate so far (2 win, 2 draw, 10 loss). Yes, you're supposed to manually aim your fireball, great, now all I have to do is guess where he will roll out of the 16 different directions he can do so, if I can guess right, he will take 500 damage, YAAAY.

Then they just run at you with an estoc or a katana and stab you to death.

Seriously, why even bother making the spells if it's just going to be a PVE thing? And it's not like it makes it easy mode, I found myself struggling at a lot of bosses with pyro that I absolutely owned with my quality build:

Save yourself the time, don't bother building a pyro unless you enjoy 2 shotting pus of men a lot. In that case, have fun.

Unless you show me a straight footage of at least 1 hour where someone consistently wrecks face with it I will not believe you.
So you call a build viable when you win all the time with it? There is a difference between viable and Overpowered you know?

The problem is that the strongest pyro spells are better against targets that are unaware of you or to stupid to roll (e.g. sneaking up on someone or PvE), but some of them that suck in PvE are a lot better in PvP. Like the fireball shotgun thing (Bursting Fireball), it's really hard to roll through all of the balls if you shoot it at the right time. Still not good enough to win you a game on its own, but it's good to put pressure on a player that spams dodges too much. Some of the short-range spells can also be good punishment for someone that's about to run up and slash in your face, but you have to time it correctly which is pretty much a guessing game against a human IMO...
Charge up a R2.
Black flame.
Enemy goes for a rolling attack.
Black flame.
Enemy Breathes.
Black flame.
He just stands there.
Walk up and Black flame.

Okay, I have never tried to be a pure pyromancer, ill try it and form my own opinion on the mater. But it is true, you almost never see a PURE pyromancer.

What do you consider a pure pyromancer?

40/40 faith int?

It's really hard to do a 40/40 pyro build because that is a ton of stat allocation. Plus you have to figure in attunement.

That does not give you many options at all to pump in endurance and vigor.

Here is a build that I have been working on, and I am having a lot of trouble keeping the int/faith at 40/40 and coming up with a character that looks like it would perform well.

I really want to fit Hidden Body, and Obscuring ring in this build, but finding it very hard to do so and keep my stats high.

to be fair, you want to use some weapons that require high strengh, dex and stamina. If you use a weapon that work with the base stats you would have much more points for everything else
Also in my opnion: Witches ring is enough when you use support weapons at 40/40, still around 650dmg with forbidden sun. The problem that you have to invest in dex for higher casting speed or you have to use the sages ring is the biggest bullsh1t ever. I dont get why From had to use the Ds1 mechanic here instead of the more reasonable DS2 version

To your question: Pure pyromancer was in the first 2 games a pyromancer without sidearms. Pyromancys only and maybe a shield. In this game many think that a pure pyromancer build is just 40int and 40fth. I dont know why maybe some people realy want the elitist name for their pyro build.

I dont see why you have to be a pure pyromancer to proove that pyromancies are powefull. All elementar infusions are ment to be used by caster builds and chaos/raw+buff/dark infused melee weapons are a realy good addition to support a pyro build.

Not having side arms would be near impossible. There is virtually no FP regen in DS3. You would run out of FP really fast. It would be cool if I could run around all day and not have to worry about FP. Maybe if they incorporated Fresh Spice in this game that would be a viable option for fun.

Vivor, I see what you are saying there regarding the weapon selection. Using a strength weapon like astora great sword is very hard because of the reasons you mentioned. It is pretty much set up in a way where if you want to use a strength weapon the sage ring is mandatory, and if you want to use a dex weapon you can drop the ring.

I think if you are going strength pyro then you might as well call it a chaos infused strength build, because the pyro takes a back seat in order to cap out strength and stamina.

Im probably going to create builds on mugen for both right now, then reallocate one of my characters and play around with both and see what I like best.

I would love to make builds for both actually. Pure pyro, and a chaos infused build.

I play as a dedicated pyromancer... LvL 120 at the LOWEST is what you should be at, lvl 90 is too low, and i consistantly (( and gracefully )) Bulldoze my way through bosses, mobs and players, speaking strictly players, iv'e gone... last count some 18-0 killed 18, died none before i finally got spanked like the naughty pyromaniac i am, it CAN be done and pyromancy is -Far- from useless, but it is a skill you have to work on, and built up an instinct for, this isnt something thats going to take a few days, it could take weeks, or even months to learn how to time things correctly and -know- what yoru opposition is going to do before they do it.

try simple infusion, if that don't work, double it with two simple infused weps, it's really good with low cost FP attacks, but will not let you spam out alot.
