From the Cursed Greatwood fog door (Where it would of been before you fight the boss) instead of going in to the boss room, turn around and go through the door behind you. Go all the way down the steps and through the mobs and you'll reach a bridge. You can either go across that bridge which leads to Eygon and another door (Which leads to the previously mentioned lift) or you can go through the door with the dog and in to the sewers (The sewer leads to a short cut that takes you back to the dilapidated bridge bonfire)
