Bad performance
What should I start disabling that will improve performance without reducing quality overly much?
Also surprised this game is so poorly optimised, all the other Dark Souls games have been pretty good, it's surprising considering it's a PS4 port anyway.

DS2 had proper programmers for its port, it's no surprise 3 was poorly optimized. There's this trend where purposefully making a game have poor optimization is the developer company's cheap way of making the game seem "graphically revolutionary" and thus requiring a much higher-end PC than is actually needed.

Are you stupid ? get a better PC i play this game at 140 fps at max settings and also don't be stupid this isn't a port from the PS4.

I would love for there to be a sticky saying that the optimization for the starting map is extremely bad. Like barely 60 even with all low. It gets MUCH better once you move on to the first major zone.

I would recommend just cranking everything down to low then once you go past the firelink shrine, bring your settings back up.

Resolution would take a big chunk of your frames as with AA/SSAO.

Resolution has the largest impact on performance in DS3.

Motion blur and DoF are also relatively expensive. SSAO can be lowered or disabled.

After that, you'll need to lower texture and shadow quality. The performance cost for the rest of the graphics options is negligible.

It's not surprising at all. Previous Dark Souls games were made to run on the old consoles; Dark Souls III is made for the newer consoles exclusively and is far more demanding.

In particular, the game hits the CPU really hard, and at least 3GB VRAM is preferred (though you can scrape by with 2GB on high settings).

Thanks, those helped quite a bit.

Editing's a funny thing you know. :3

You also have no idea how the real world works if you think "get a better PC" is as easy as buying a bottle of water lmao.

the port isnt bad

It's not a PS4 port. All 3 versions were worked on simultaniously.

I'm probably going to make a thread about this, but my aging rig can run this game on high settings; it takes a good 20 seconds for 60fps to kick in, but it stays once it gets there. Until the next loading screen.

But oh my god I've been experiencing crahses left and right. It crashed when I warped to Lothric for the first time, and I think I may have missed the person who gives you the way of blue ring? Crash every time co op ends. The game starts off using 10-11GB of RAM, and if I play for more than 40 minutes, Windows will usually force kill the game because I've run out of memory.
