Yoel died before completing his quest line, probably by Eyron's hand. Yuria never showed up in Firelink shrine. So, no chance to get the tome in this playthrough?

Wut? No! You killed the Abyss watchers before gaining 5 dark sigils, that's all.

If you kill the Abyss Watchers at any point, Yoel DROPS DEAD. And if you don't get the 5 dark sigils before he dies, you can never get the sigils any more, and thus you cannot get Yuria to show up and thus cannot get her questline/shop items.

I mean there's still your next NG cycle, but you're screwed for this one.

The tomes should be exclusively collectable items and not tied to questlines. It already sucks enough to muddle through DS3 using magic or miracles.

Pretty much. I completely forgot about Yoel's existence on my first NG, then just found him dead in firelink at some point. There's really no logical reason why he drops dead when you beat the Watchdogs, and a good amount of items is inaccessible if you screw up that questline, including the two Untrue Rings. This applies for almost all of the sidequests too. But hey, SoulsBorne is like that, it's all convulted and requires experimentation from the community in general to figure things out. That's why I say there's no shame in consulting the wiki on such things just to make sure you don't screw yourself over and have to start another NG cycle when you shouldn't really have to.

Anyway, I really want the Life Hunt scythe and fortunately you get it by soul transposition. And the sunlight spear too. But only after you finished the playthrough and got the last big soul to trade.

I feel like you might actually be able to get both transpose items in one NG cycle through the use of save-scumming. Y'know, using back-up saves and having a friend. If that's what you're talking about.

It's Dark Souls, it's cryptic by design, the community is part of that design, you gotta reswerch if you want to know everything about the game mechanics.
