Controller vs Keyboard and Mouse
Is it really hard to play Dark Souls 3 with keyboard and mouse? Do I need to buy a controller?

DS3 has perfectly fine keyboard and mouse controls as far as I'm aware.

And emulated games are also perfectly fine with keyboard and mouse.

....But you still really really want a controller.

Played all three games with M+KB, never used a controller.

You lose out on a few buttons that are not explained in the config menu, but its about the same. I really wish they would add more button configurations with ACTUAL description of the button change. Like what is LB and RB in the keyboard version and not some program text descripton... lazy programming right there.

The game has built in 360 gamepad support, so go with that.

Here's one example of why this is better to play with a controller. Movement in DS3 requires basically 4 fingers in combat as you have to be very mobile. Yes you don't ALWAYS need all 4 fingers on wasd, but there are times you certainly do. Plus dodge/roll that is all your options.

On a controller you can use 1 finger to handle all 4 of those on the keyboard. This allows it easier to make heavy attacks, dodge, and focuse on the combat instead of finger placement.

Yes, I am PCMR supporter, but controllers have their purpose, just like HOTAS in flight games.

Its the other way around, Dark Souls and most other cross plattform title are meant to be played with controller while on keyboard+mouse some commands are way more difficult to execute because the button mapping is spread across the keyboard or you need more finger for example moving (WASD ~3 fingers + little finger Shift for slow moving vs left stick which only needs the thumb).

In the end the controller is more comfortable. Left thumb for moving / weapon+magic selection, right thumb for camera + use / dodge / item / two handing and trigger finger for light / hard attack or parry, block.

For controller just buy a normal wireless xbox360 controller for about 40-50€ because most games have this one as standard controller and with programms like JoyToKey you can create extra mappings for them. Considering Dark Souls you can for example create a mapping for the left stick button (L3) which has no use and put forward+light attack on it for the kick which is normally hard to perform.

Well, yes that is true, but I find if you've grown up playing PC it's really easy to multi-task those keys just as easily if you were using a controller.

Try rolling while aiming camera at opponent for roll attack with controller. That's right - you can do it easily with kb+m, but you can't do that with controller. Camera management is the main reason I play these games with kb+m despite having two controllers.
