I agree that durability is sort of meaningless in the game, but weapons can break.
And I never had a problem with durability in DS2 (even before they turned off a lot of the stuff that would drain durability prior to SotFS). It just interacted strangely with some weapons (because of their move sets).
Anyway, with that said, once you get to play a bit and try out weapons, start dying less and see when you might just not want to go to a bonfire at all, you will find yourself in need of several repair powders, especially if your weapon is a Katana is something with similar durability.
Indeed, repair powder is VERY VERY situational, but it has its uses nonetheless. Just get it and forget it would be the route advisable there.
I feel like, to be more worthwhile of an item, there should be more weapon abilities and weapon arts that use durability.
Fully charged two-handed R2 uses durabilty. Not the one that stabs into the ground.
