This. Both Anri and Horace are, so we can guess Horace ended up consumed like all the undeads we kill in the series.
but your point dont have anyweight specialy to a world like darksouls tell me one character dont have some sort of trauma or not acting abit stupid or crazy in all 3 games even your own chracter first game you are in asylum cell second game you are totaly traumatized at start by not haveing a momery anymore and now you rise from your grave because you are a failure at your life now you are forced to succeeds.
He and Anri have been traveling a long way, both hollow. IMO Horace's snarls signals that he is in an advanced state, and probably Anri knows that when he/she says something like "excuse my friend, he's not very talkative, but he is a loyal man", as if he knew he was different in the past.
Didn't know that. Still, a sane mute person doesn't do those unfriendly sounds when meeting new people :P
