So what is the deal with Slash damage?
Normal/Strike/Thurst are easy enough to figure out, but what exactly are the benefits/downsides of a weapon doing Slash damage?

I mean, the game says it does reduce damage to armour but I've not noticed anything of the sort and we all know that in Dark Souls you have to take descriptions in-game with a grain of salt, LOL.

It's effective against naked people/light armor or something. at least that's what the description about some slashing weapons say.

Aye, but what does the 'hard data' say?

Haven't run any tests on slash damage, as of lately I am lacking a friend to make such tests with, since I am the only one who is hard into Souls PvP inside my close friends circle.
There was an actual noticeable difference between slash, blunt, and thrust in DkS2 and they were good for different types of enemies. Here, it seems like the damage type weakneses have been hugely toned down for some dumb reason..
It gets worse when you factor in "physical" damage. What the hell is "physical" damage, and why is it separate from blunt, slash, thrust? Is it the "regular" damage from DkS1? How is the regular damage not slash? I really don't get it.

physical damage is standard damage, present in weapons like axes and most straight swords.
in fact, the slashing attacks from DS2's straight swords actually counted as slash damage, here the r1 slashes from straightswords are pure standard damage.

I figured so, but it doesn't make it any less stupid. It was like this in DkS1 as well. Axes and swords still inflict slashing wounds, because they're bladed weapons. I don't get the need to separate that into 2 damage types.

The "Standard" damage makes little to no sense:

A weapon either slashes with an edge, strikes with a blunt edge or pierces with a sharp point. How "Standard" is neither of that I will never know.
It's not really bad either, Thrusting damage is very counter damage focused, standard damage is quite standard... (lol) strike damage weapons have better poise and stamina damage, along with being a tad better against armored enemies.

slashing damage is said to not do so good against "armors and scales" from the descriptions of some scimitars regarding slashing attacks so I would assume it has something to do with that.

I just noticed that my Carthus Curved Greatsword bypasses a 100% block shield.

It is nothing major (18 damage on a Silver Knight using it's shield to block) but still - I thought this was something exclusive to stuff like Man Serpent Hatchet, Shotel and of course the Scythes.

Perhaps all Slash-damage weapons get it?
