The only real thing I hate about this game
This single thing has gotten me killed more times than anything else. PVP or PVE it doesn't matter. But there seems to be some sort of problem with the reponse time with my character. From when I press a button to when my character actually perfroms an action, there is a serious delay, sometimes even a second or even two seconds.

for example I command my character to roll away from an attack, but I get hit cause my character doesn't do it. but then after my character gets attacked then my characetr rolls away. that's just one of thousands of examples. I have to adapt to it, and I have adequately done so. but if that delay didn't exist I would be able to survive far more effectively. I have simply grown tired of the game, because im tired of having to deal with this delay.

if you still don't understand why I hate this, imagine you're playing super mario bros, but every single command you give mario has a split second delay. that might not seem like much but when you're in the middle of a jump, and a Koopa troopa suddenly appears in front of you from off screen, and you have to change your jump while in the middle of the jump, this can get you killed if you react too late, and with that delay it is very likely that you will.

I can't be the only one that feels this way.

What you are describing is called 'Negative Edge' and input buffers.

The reason you feel delay in the roll commands in all the Dark Souls games is because the roll function is also tied to the sprint function. Basically the game waits for you to release X (PS4) or B (XboxOne) before you roll otherwise it assumes you want to sprint. This is negative edge the command happens on key release.

IMO a piss poor system, but on average most people can press and release a button within 5 frames less if you try for it. So if you treat the invulnerability frames around 5 frames after you press the roll command you should be fine. Or From could give you a dedicated dodge button so you can have i0 defence on rolls like most action games.

Rolling after you get hit is part of the illogical command buffer in this game. For some reason they keep your roll command buffered for the earliest possible moment it can be performed even after getting hit. The only game/series I've ever played that does this. Most games clear your buffer when you get hit.

EDIT: ♥♥♥♥ I meant circle on PS4, heh.

This DS is the most punishing when it comes to the button queuing system. All DS seem to have it but this one is by far the most awkward.

You really have to hit the button at the correct timing, If you spam your attack button and then spam roll, you will finish up atleast 1 more attack before rolling, then most likely roll a second time.

If not spamming button inputs maybe it is your Controller/keyboard/PC. Hell it could even be your monitor.

I have gotten used to the timing somewhat, but the fact is I shouldn't have to get used to it. it should be instinctive. fast, responsive. instead it is like running through waste deep water.

I have done so many different things to try to fix it. I personally belive it is hard-coded into the engine. There ain't no fixin this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Can't say it is, I don't have this delay you speak of, just the Souls input queue.
The queue is there so you don't spam buttons, you need to be precise with your inputs
If vsync is on, turn it off, or enable triple buffering

Well I don't know about 'hard-coded', but it isn't out of the ordinary to have engine lag. You'd be surprised how many competitive shooters have engine lag for a few frames. Considering From's track-record for poor performance for the sake of visual aesthetics (Armored Core series) I wouldn't be surprised.

All i was trying to get across is that alot of people input spam, i more meant getting used to not input spamming. It helped my friend out alot. He was complaining about input lag/delay, i watched a short video of his and saw him mashing weapon switch, and after asking him, he admitted to doing it with the attacks and rolls with out really noticing. He has slowed down and gotten much better.
