How is Dark Sword in PvE?
Before all your negative comments flood the chat with "scrub weapon, cancer, etc etc", how is the Dark Sword in PvE? Can someone with experience give me your opinions on the matter?

Though it's probably unlikely, please refrain from using words such as the ones listed above. Chances are I have more experience than you in PvP and I don't swing my weapon more than 2~3 times in a row in PvP even with something like a longsword. First two swing is the stagger+follow up hit, the third swing is to catch them rolling away or trying to backstab me IF they're showing signs of trying to do so.

With that said, I have very little experience with the Dark Sword and would like to know your thoughts on it strictly regarding PvE.

It's like every other straight sword but with Stomp instead of Stance.

Not really sure what exactly you want to know. Apparently you are experienced in PvP, so you should understand how mechanics like scaling and such work.

I do understand how the scaling works. However I'd like to know of a personal experience of how it "feels" in PvE. I can sit here and imagine how the weapon would work but that won't draw much of an image.

Anyways so essentially a longsword with a stomp, that's all there is to it? If so I may actually just skip the weapon, thanks.

I think the point is that when it comes to PvE and enemies that are more predictable than clever, it all comes down to how you like the moveset. If you're indifferent about it, using the Dark Sword wouldn't really be all that different from using any other straight sword.

Other than moveset preference, and build, all that's left is cosplay value.

Since you're so experienced in PvP, shouldn't you immediately understand if Dark Sword is viable throughout PvE?

In regards to your question, yes/no.

Yes, it is more than viable on shield-less enemies/non-badasses. However Cathedral Knights, Silver/Black Knights, and Lothric Knights all have Shields/Greatshields with tons of Poise. If you are going to use an SSword on these enemies, then you want an SSword that has Stance WA. Stance + R1 = GG Shields, enjoy dat Riposte. Dark Swords don't have Stance obviously. Dark Swords also do not have the ever-so-useful zoning, one-handed poke of most SSwords.

Dark Swords have a general use throughout the PvE, but also have severe limitations.

Thanks for the information guys, very informative.

Also I'd like to note that just because I understand PvP really well doesn't mean it directly affects my PvE experience(some similarity shares but some areas are just different). For example the Washing Pole is godlike in PvP but it feels just terrible in PvE.

Think I might just go with the Wolf Knight Greatsword, it takes around the same time to get either.

It is excellent for pve. If an enemy is using a shield, just dual wield the sword and you will break the guard in 2 - 3 hits.

Any idea if it just straight up reflects off of greatshields like the other SS?

It will even break through cathedral knights with great shields in 3 or 4 hits while dual wielding.

Hits hard with 40/40/40 and hollow, try adding some carthus rouge and bosses will drop pretty fast

Im confused why you cant just try it out. I mean, its not like there is no scaling in pvp, you know what the stats are, you know the damage youll deal from the menu. and you can easily just equip it and run around to see if you like it. Is the souls series not about experimentation anymore? or did i miss a memo?

Yes the Dark Sword is good. Why don't you spend 3 minutes to farm one, level it up a bit and test it out? A lot of people beat the game with that sword.
It's dark sword. You swing it left, you swing it right, sometimes throw in a stomp or R2. Nothing really to it.

I actually like using the dark sword because it still has great fierces for flashiness and it hurts a good bit. I personally like the stomp art on it because it's just daring people to come at you.

DS1's dark sword was longer and cooler, 'nuff said.

Dark Sword is very good. Straight Swords in general are but Dark Sword is probably one of the best with the correct set up. Also it has some flashy moves and stomp is neat if you go for style.

Other than that hit R1 a few times and most things are dead.
