Anor Londo's design choice was terrible...
As much as I enjoyed the nostalgia of "coming back".
Considering that its "Ruins of The City of The Old Gods" where the hell is the "ruin"?
The people of Irythill restored the outside and let the inside rot or something?
I wish there had been more of a transition between Irythill and Anor Londo... perhaps traveling through the ruins of Old Anor Londo until you get to the castle of Anor Londo... not this "Heya this elevator is here, and the castle is standing perfectly fine on the outside after 1939193919 years without any sign of decay".

Honestly it just seems like a copy-paste.

It was rebuilt multiple times, hence the disappearance of certain structures (and the appearance of others thereof). Plus, all of Aldrich's lackeys and pontiff himself never go up there since they're busy doing their own thing, and Aldrich is busy eating and sleeping like the disgusting blob he is.

Out of all the complaints I see about the game, this one definitely falls under the "petty and stupid" category

Trust me, this topic comes up even more often than not. Better than listening to people complain about the P word.

I've certainly seen it before, it just seems weird to me. It happens all the time in real life, people find an older civilization, repair what they can of an important looking area and replace what they can't fix. It's implied that DS3 takes place thousands of years after DS1, is it that hard to comprehend that most of the original Anor Londo is gone?
I was genuinely confused seeing missing cities and structures upon arriving, but I can put two and two together and assumed reasonably, you can't make games exactly to scale with each other because that takes a lot more money and time. Kinda like in watch dogs, they didn't make an exact replica of Chicago but it came close enough.

In my opinion, From Soft try only when Sony stands behind with large dildo in hands. For example - Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, made on Sony money. All(ALL, CARL!) locations are masterpiece, and not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ copy-paste like we have in Dark Souls series.

Not saying anything except Bloodborne is single handedly my favorite game ever.

Dark souls 1 is 100% original, and DS3 is 99.9% original. What's your complaint exactly?

My theory about the mansion of Anor Londo being intact is that it was been taken care of by Gwyndoline. It was hidden under the illusion created by him, invisible to the common folk of Irrythryl.

Untill Aldrich dreamt about eating the Gods, and told his pal Pontiff that in his dream there was such place above. Then they checked and Gwyndoline become a bishop food, making whole Anor Londo accessible again.

Makes sense to me

My guess would be that all the fighting only went on inside the area where Aldrich/Gwyndoline are. Aldrich supposely can devour gods simply by dreaming of them and there is no indication of how he does it. Perhaps Gwyndolin was inside the boss room and Aldrich simply appeared and began devouring him. It would also explain why the outside are still full of silver knights and untouched by fighting.
