King of the Storm Fire is BS
So, the first time I did Nameless King was maybe, 6 days after release? (I need to check the achievement date). I had no trouble with the bird, and killed him first time almost every time I went back.

Now though, he seems to use the airborne flame AoE attack more than usual. If you start to run away from him as SOON as he takes off, you still don't have enough time to escape before the fire hits you. If you don't touch anything, the fire hurtbox will still be active when your character stands up. This effectively makes this attack an almost unavoidable one-shot for a melee character, and I just don't know what to do against it.

I'm on NG+3 just trying to set up a fresh run for when the DLC hits. This is the only thing I'm having an issue with; this one attack.

The attacks an enemy uses is based on your distance to them, this makes it easier to make them loop into the same attack patterns over and over, and i think this has been the case for every souls game, and maybe bloodborne i dunno i haven't played it.

What you want to do against the nameless king is stay in front the bird's head, close enough to be able to hit its head. This will make the bird spit fire or the nameless to swing at you. Just don't get UNDER the bird because that makes it fly up and breath fire from above, or too far away from them because they will lounge at you.

It might be tricky to get the distance down but once you do they will only perform those 2 attacks.

EDIT: when it breathes fire circle to the left and hit its head, if you are quick you will make it stagger. Also when you are fighting the unmounted version of the boss, stay close to him and circle to the right, some of his attacks will miss you completely.

What? Yes you do have time to run away. That's the idea.

Aah, okay, thanks for the advice. I do have trouble with postitioning more on this fight because the bird can move so quickly and cover a lot of distance. If I'm locked on to the Nameless King ready to dodge, the movement of the bird can break the lock-on.

Just something I'll work on, thanks for the advice!

Play him again. As soon as he leaves the ground and bunches his wings a little close together as a wind-up, you legitimately do not have enough time to run out of range.

I'm not slow with this stuff either. I haven't died to Quelaag's spider explosion for easily over 2 years.

Well run when he flies up then. Being a speedrunner, I must've fought him atleast 30 times.

You have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of time to run away. Maybe you are not facing it up and getting stuck under it? Strange because i never get hit by its flame lol.... Nameless King himself is a pain in the ass though

or just use sunlight spears and smite the bird part?
I'm 2shoted the bird on my FTH build.

Will take longer without FTH true, but it's easier and makes the bird stagger like a brick for special execution.
