Great Hammers Vs Great Axes

I kind of want to mix it up for a playthrough, and I was thinking about either great hammers or great axes. Any thoughts on which I should use? I really have no experience with either weapon class, the closest thing I've used are the ultra great sword like BKGS and Zweihander.

Great hammers are really cool weapons to play with, but sucks on pvp since they are too slow. Great axes normaly has battle cry as weapon art which allow you to do some diferent attacks.

If you know where R2 button is and can predict even a bit instead of relying solely on reaction, Greathammers don't suck in PvP.

Greataxes are way better in this game, but for the love of everyone else, please use The Greataxe and not one of the gigantic long ones that makes everyone elses lives miserable. Besides, The Greataxe is a good weapon anyway, proper use of the charged warcry r2 can reward skilled play with massive damage.

Haven't tried GreatAxe's but they do look cool. I really wanna try the Demon Axe but it'll have to wait until NG+. I've been PvPing with the Great Club and Demon Fists collecting swordgrass and it's been awesome since I got it somewhere around SL30-40. I recommend trying it out

Yes it sucks, if you want some prof we can pvp each other, then you use a greathammer, you won't land me a single hit, one or two handed. Feel free to add me so we can try if you want.

Greataxes are far more fun IMO, especially the great machete, yhorm's machete, and the dragonslayer axe
