Building the Avelyn
Greetings, fellow PC master race Dark Souls players!
I am a 17 year old studying engineer and physicist, son of an engineer and former woodworker, and a huge fan of Dark Souls. If you've ever wondered how an Avelyn works, I might have the answer for you.
I am currently working on a few theories regarding the mechanism inside the Avelyn. If I see enough support, I will work on a 3d model of the mechanism, and further yet, if I see that people take great interest, my father and I are going to build a fully functioning, real life, home-made Avelyn.
I have recently took to reddit where I have made a post about the Avelyn. If you have anything you want to ask or say, please refer to this link and tell me what you think about my project!
Thanks for your interest and your time,
-Snuggs

But how..? Aint it 3 crossbows on top if eachother, 1 thing to trigger all 3 but they shoot a little while after eachother, a weird nearly impossible reload mechanic and much more crazy dark souls ♥♥♥♥?
Nothing is impossible! It's just going to take a lot of time to design and build.

Search up the japanesse (or chinesse, dunno) repeating crossbow, pretty sure that is what the avelyn is inspired by. The avelyn itself wouldn't really work, and if it did, it would be either weak or too slow to reload.
It doesn't need to be practical. It's from a video game! As much as I'm frustrated about unrealism in video games, when you create a weapon that appears in a video game you need to take into consideration that it's not going to be an ingenius weapon that can be really used, it just has to look cool. There are so many ways the Avelyn could magnificently fail and break apart, but all you need is one way that makes it not the worst thing ever and you've got yourself a weapon suitable for gaming.

You're gonna be my damned hero if you make this work.
Expect me to buy one and hang it on a wall with bolts included.

Woah, this is pretty ambitious project. Looking forward for it, OP.

That'll be cool OP, even if it obviously won't function exactly as it does in the game

Thanks for taking interest! Once again, I'll porbably be more attentive to the reddit post than this one, but I'll still post major updates here. Make sure to spread the word!

I've mailed Bandai and asked them if selling those (if they ever even pass the prototype test) would be problematic. Waiting for a response.
At any rate, don't expect to see those up for sale. Even my lowest estimates imply building a single prototype, fanciness not included, would take immense effort, so the chance of building more than one is very low.

As it stands, I am not entirely sure the aesthetics of the Avelyn are even possible, since it might prove problematic to design a crossbow as thick and heavy and still functional. I'll try my best, but don't expect to get one any time soon.
