I've seen so many people struggle a lot with Midir because they don't understand the pace of the fight, they don't understand how to approach it.
You are supposed to hit Midir's head, not body, legs or tail. Hitting anything but the head does reduced dmg and is a waste of your time. The fight is also designed in a way where it is possible to hit Midir's head. Here's how this fight goes : You wait for Midir to do an attack, after the attack you hit the head, rinse and repeat. You do NOT control the pace of this fight, you are not allowed to just run at Midir and whack him. You simply let Midir control the pace and you punish, that is it.
Now, in order to do this, the most important thing in this fight is your spacing. Spacing means the distance between you and the enemy (Midir). Idk if you've noticed but Midir always moves forward when he attacks with melee. This is designed so that you can stay at a certain distance from Midir to be able to properly use lock on and roll backwards, and after Midir's combo you will end up at his head. Midir will ALWAYS give you a window to attack after he attacks. It is your job to figure out how to be in the position to do so.
This is why spacing is the most important thing. Stay too close to Midir and he will run past you when he attacks and you will miss your window to attack, stay too far away from Midir and you will trigger lazers and flying and whatever. You need to find the correct distance to where you can dodge all the attacks and end up in the correct position, Midir's head, after his combo. Also, if you space correctly then you should use lock on, it is your friend in this fight. (maybe not for every single attack) but the majority. Especially the melee combos, because the camera follows his claws when he tries to smack you, so you can actually see them.
The hitboxes in this fight are extremely consistent, so is Midir. Midir can't really do anything to surprise you if you know the fight. The only thing you gotta worry about is the super death lazer in P2, pretty much. But if you space correctly, that's not an issue either cuz you just run to Midir's left leg. See, spacing is everything. Good luck!
