and then when he stops hit him with melee weapon to the head.
You can also use bow against him, for example Black Bow of Pharis.
That way you don't need to stay as close to his head. (still try to stay within 5 meters)
Never go under of behind him.
His back left leg is safe area against laser in both phases.

midir is best with at least one summons and possibly shira...i've soloed without shira but its rough...you must learn the pattern....and dodge and go for small damage and roll away and doge again....i am not a head hit player...i like diging midir and hitting him in the back legs and rolling away again and dodging all his attacks...it takes a LONG time solo especially without shira as a tank....if you are a sorcerer or faith tank and have pestilent mist (i forget whether that's magic or faith), you can run underneath him and keep casting pestilient mist and running away and deal alot of AOE damage buts its been several hundred hours since i had that build so i hit him underneath, run away and roll dodge like i was the doge
Stick to him like the color white on some grains of rice, and as a direct result of preventing any large gap between you two, he will *NOT* do that extremely difficult to dodge laser beam attack, which actually includes something like just running left a bit, then towards him as he makes the wave motions back and forth towards himself. Seriously though, I could never dodge it when I triggered it, and when I looked up how I felt incredibly stupid and thought it was so lame for that attack to be that easy to avoid... It was the comments section of that same video where I learned this incredibly useful tip I'm sharing on how to avoid the attack entirely.
If you really need help I can jump in and assist you. I soloed him armorless yesterday on NG+10. Only got hit twice, and only survived both times because of the resistance bonuses from Sacred Oath. Still brought me down to a sliver of HP, but Midir is definitely one of the most predictable bosses in the entire game for me. You could sit at the edge of the arena and I'll kill him for you if ya want XD
-When he rears up onto his back legs, he's about to spray the floor with fire, so that's your queue to run away
-When he flies into the air to blow fire across the floor as he flies above, you'll want to make a beeline sprinting diagonally toward him and the side of the room, but angled more towards the side of the room than towards him (basically crossing his path to make an X or +), and 99% of the time you'll clear the line of fire right before it passes behind you, and it's probably his most consistently easy to dodge attack. I've literally never been hit by it.
-Occasionally he'll shoot a blast of fire straight forward towards you once, but there's a chance he can follow it up with another, but well telegraphed second fire blast. When you see him sway backwards somewhat angrily immediately after the first blast, he's about to send another one to your new location wherever you happen to run to, get ready to dodge the attack again when he does.
-When he does the fire blast that sweeps across the floor, you'll wanna roll through it right as it gets to you as if you're jumping over a jump rope, then sprint up and give him a few whacks. (Even I get caught by this one every now and then if I'm not focused or paying attention well enough.)
-When he's on all fours and cocКs his head backwards and up high while looking almost directly down at the floor, he's about to shoot a slightly delayed dark beam forward, followed by another sweep across in front of him. Dodge this by sprinting left or right until the beam passes you, then either run towards his face before he sweeps across, or back away from him to avoid the second beam. (I always run towards him so that I'm on the inner side of the second beam, this way I can give him a few wallops with the Wolf Knight's Greatsword. but you'll wanna be very close in his personal bubble because the second arc he sweeps in front of him is a bit close to his body.)
-Right before he dashes, pay close attention to his movements. You'll kinda notice him hunker down in a sense and get slightly closer to the floor like he's getting leverage to spring forward at you, he is, and you should be prepared to quickly dodge left or right the moment he initiates his movement towards you from being still. Probably one of his more subtly telegraphed moves, but it's still easily telegraphed when you see it enough times. and recognize it. If he telegraphs it when you're not paying close attention, or are adjusting your camera, you can easily take a hit from this one.
-When he belts out a roar with weird sound waves emanating from his mouth, it means he's about to lunge forward and try to bite you with his equivalent of a grab attack. You'll wanna try and time your dodge left or right (either works but I've had more luck going left than right, and that side 'feels' safer since you end up sort of behind his head) at the very moment he initiates his lunge towards you. Too late and he may still grab you, and if done too early I believe he'll correct his course right before initiating the lunge. This one is not much different from the last except if he gets you with this one you're probably dead.
-For claw attacks he'll do a well telegraphed swipe left across the floor, followed by another predictable swipe to the right (he may stop after two swipes, or follow up with a few more so be careful when you're in his face. If you see him raise one of his front arms up to the left or right sides, another one is coming. This one is slow and pretty easy to dodge if you can time your i-frames somewhat decently. He also has an alternative where he'll slam his claws down diagonally from above followed by a couple swipes from the left/right.
-There's one combo that's particularly difficult to see coming where he'll kinda push himself backwards somewhat subtly from being down on all fours to something that resembles more of a crouching or hunching position, almost as if he's about to stand up. When he does this, be prepared to start rolling backwards because he immediately follows that up by basically thrashing towards you violently with a somewhat short flurry consisting of an overhead claw slam, 4-6 left/right side swipes, and another overhead slam. but the idea in dodging this one if you can see it coming is to simply just go backwards. You can even sprint away if you catch it early enough, otherwise you'll be spamming roll until he stops advancing.
(With enough practice on this one though, you can actually time when to stop your retreat accurately so that his head after landing the final blow of the attack will end up just a few inches from your face while you still remain safe and just barely out of his range for the attack's final blow, therefore presenting an opportunity for another few free hits. (Wouldn't recommend trying this without significant familiarity of his moves because it can end with you taking a serious blow if you don't roll far enough back.)
-His bite attacks aren't much different from his slow claw sweeps from the sides, and it usually consists of 2-4 bites.
-PHASE 2 isn't much different than the first phase. Except he'll slam a claw down and summon a swarm of souls or dark energy that homes in towards you, they're easy to dodge just by rolling a few times, but keep an eye on Midir in case you need to dodge an incoming attack during the little soul storm. He'll also follow his stampede across the room with a second one back to the other side, just run in a wide arc to the side until you're past him then circle back around to start chasing behind him.
-If he manages to put distance between you, there's a very high chance that he'll do his chaotic, wide-coverage laser beam frenzy attack all over the room, and not knowing where to run will end up with it killing you 9/10 times guaranteed. Knowing how to avoid the risk of him even doing this one by staying in his face, or close to him at all times during phase 2, and by following him and staying close when he stampedes to the other side of the room you can 100000% guarantee that he will not do that bullsh*t attack under any circumstances whatsoever unless you allow a significant gap to form between the both of you. I can't stress it enough with this attack that the best way to avoid the annoyance and a likely death is simply not to let it happen to begin with lol.
His swipes and bites usually come in sets of 2's, but be wary of the potential follow-ups, and most of the time they're going to be slow dodges having 1-2 seconds passing between dodging consecutive attacks. His tantrum attack where he thrashes towards you is probably going to be the most difficult move of his to deal with though.
If you have the stats for it, use the Wolf Knight's Greatsword because he is an abyssal enemy and it does bonus damage. It's better than Farron GS because of it's faster attack speed being a lighter weapon class and all. He also gives you a number of opportunities to use the GS weapon arts because he'll frequently enter a brief idle state where he sits there still for a moment or two after an attack with his head kinda hanging towards the floor. You'll also want to capitalize on these opportunities where he's briefly still, because attack too late and you might get nailed with a claw slam or other sudden attack, or more commonly in my case, you'll hit nothing but air as he begins to move right as you swing at him.
