Its almost entirely cpu reliant and uses mostly 1 core. On my machine I get 70% usage on one core and 30-40% on the others. Its why the fps is so inconsistent without some kind of limiter.
Fromsoft cannot code for pc. There are a ton of issues in this game that have never been fixed in the 6.5 months its been out. All they've done is tweak the weapon stats.
The phyre engine is also very unique in that any attempt to mess with its timings etc lead to weird issues. You've probably noticed for example that locking the fps below 60 increases the load times. Trying to mess with how it renders geometry is only asking for trouble lol.
I mean I could be off base with this logic, but in most games draw distance isn't the hardest thing to code in my limited experiance, no easy feat, but I have a feeling if FromSoft actually tried they could get away with it.
