I like the Warpick - you know the hammer with thrust damage that takes advantage of Leo Ring. But it's so slow that even rolling R1 takes longer than enemy turning around and hitting me with his weapon XD
Yeah, as a game that supposed to be balanced about PVE aspect it is badly balanced around PVE.
Maces are good but they are mostly only useful vs what they counter heavily mostly sklletons and rock enemies, they do stagger enemies faster but again with the speed of a SS you will mostlikely take just as long to stagger a boss while dealing more damage.
Curved sword are DPS monsters if you use a weapon buff.
Speed/damage/reach/utillity/buffs/staminacost/everything is just on average better.
And without poise not only do large weapons become due to being inferior to begin with, but they become completely and utterly pointless in pve.
Pick knightclass and you start with top tier gear that you wont ever have to change.
Every weapons has its purpous and its own rule as same with the human's abilities.
No and no.
I have 100% this game. It's piss easy for me.
There is no reason to pick anything other than a SS or TS which is actually SS weaponclass.
The only reason you could make up is because the game is so easy and you want to handicap yourself to make it more challanging.
Sure I can understand that, I beat the game naked with flynns ring as my only gearpiece.
Straight Swords are popular and deadly in this game for a reason. They serve well in PvE and PvP because they offer a balance of moveset, speed and damage. There really is no reason to not use swords like Astora's Straight Sword or the Longsword/DarkSword etc over all the useless ♥♥♥♥ they throw at you unless you're making a gimmick build.
you know they nerf the metas right? dark sword was one the meta. Anyway heard DE is still trying nerf any meta still or keep some what type meta in the game.
For example, I killed the Nameless King in under 40 seconds with a Claymore, because he was so easy to stagger with it. At 40 str/dex and refined infusion, plus the Lloyd's Sword Ring, that thing hits like a truck.
I played another game using the Uchigatana, and it made the PvE feel trivial because I did 40 dex, 40 luck and everything just bled everywhere. Added carthus Rouge to make the effect even more pronounced. I killed Soul of Cinder and was surprised at how fast the fight finished.
The Sellsword Twinblades are amazing in PvE for their ability to stagger bosses very quickly. Add a simple buff and you are a force to be reckoned with!
Those are just a few examples. In other news, I tried a bow only build and gave up on it. Things were taking just too long to kill, and I don't have that kind of time to commit to something like that. I really don't want to fight Yhorm with JUST a bow. ♥♥♥♥ that.
But yeah, so far my experience has been the same as Dark Souls 1, where I could basically pick up any weapon and be okay with it. Well, almost any weapon. I seem to suck very very much with thrusting swords and whips. But, that's just two weapon classes so I'm not terribly worried.
Dark Souls 3 has some of the most balanced weapons I've ever seen in a video game. It's quite amaizng to me what they pulled off, actually. Fun stuff!
You need to understand the other weapons better. I have used something from every weapon class, and the only thing I would really say I couldn't get the hang of were whips and thrusting swords. I found everything else to be extremely viable, if not better than straightswords. Claymore is my go to, now.
Did DS1 first time with the Thief starter weapon, bandit knife? I don't recall what it was called, never felt gimped.
