An easy way is to summon Gael, who would only join you from phase 2 onward. Get past phase 1. During phase 2, poison Father Ariandel and once he's poisoned use the Bandit's Knife to bleed him. This strategy should allow you to quickly move to phase 3 to face Black Flame Friede. Ensure that Gael survives phase 2 to help you in phase 3. During phase 3, let Gael distract Friede while you look for opportunities to backstab her. You might want to poison her first. The above is demonstrated in this video:

roll backwards from most melee attacks, side/front for the ranged ones and try to hit her whenever you can

It worked for me. Basically just don't try to roll through her entire combos and run away, it's safer.

Of the two times I cleared this fight, I found it easiest with sorceries. I found it second easiest with only an oak crossbow on a strength build. I think if I had to redo it again I'd go with the crossbow because I find it easy to control spacing with a crossbow than with any sorceries or miracles I've used.
