HELP Controller not working
So my controller has always had issues working with DS1 and DS3, this time the normal methods that usually fix the problem are not working. It doesn't matter if I use an xbox 360 controller, a ps3 or ps4 controller, or some knockoff wired xbox 360 controller, none of them work in Dark Souls 1 or 3 but they work fine in EVERY other application (including Sekiro which infuriates me). I have tried unplugging literally every USB port on my PC except the controller, this didn't work. I have tried updating, disabling, AND uninstalling most everything in my Device Manager under "Human Interface Devices", I have tried using DS4 windows and checking (and unchecking) the "Hide DS4 Controller" checkbox. I have also tried uninstalling DS4 windows completely, nothing. And I have tried to uninstall any other controller software (such as vJoy) and still, nothing is working. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Hey there! I've been having this issue off and on again multiple times over the last month but I think I have figured it out. Go into Big Picture Mode/ Controller Settings/ only have "Guide Button Focuses Steam" and "Generic Game Pad Config Support" checked. Start up the game and when the first logo appears, you know it worked if you can skip through by pressing A or B. :Hotline:
In the steam controller settings make sure you have the following boxes checked.

-Guide Button
-Xbox Config
-Generic Gamepad config

And nothing else, just those. That is what fixed my controller issues long ago.

I've tried both of those solutions myself and for some reason neither worked. Seems it's not the same for everyone like I originally thought. :Catexec:

So none of these fixes worked for me, however I got my controller working a slightly different way. What fixed my controller in Dark Souls 3 was this, have my controller plugged in, start up Dark Souls 3, THEN right click on Dark Souls 3 in your library, and finally press controller configuration. This is the only thing that allows my controller to work, starting up the game in Big Picture doesn't work, and setting a different controller configuration in the Big Picture overlay doesn't work either.

Hey man ive been having the same issue. I am just a little confused on what you mean by start dark souls and then right click for controller config if not in big picture mode? Idk if my question will make sense if it doesnt you dont need to reply.

So, for my Dark Souls 3 to work with a controller, I start in the steam library (NOT in Big Picture) I then click "Play" on Dark souls 3, and before I even open the game window up, I right click on Dark Souls 3 inside of my library, hover over manage, then click on controller configuration. Once this window is open, I can then open up the game window to see that the controller is working. If I just start up the game from big picture, I get no results and the controller doesn't work with the game.
Edit: I would like to also mention that if I wait to open up the controller configuration window (even if it's just a couple of minutes) my controller will not work. I must open the controller configuration window immediately after starting Dark Souls 3
