DS3 wont start/launch
I recently re-downloaded DS3 and haven't been able to get it to launch. Every time I press play, it says its running in the steam library, a steam cloud sync box pops up and that's it, the box goes away and nothing else happens, the game doesn't even pop up on task manager. I've checked Microsoft defender which is disabled anyways, verified files, reinstalled many times, tried to start from local files with a steamappid.txt file added, tried in offline mode, turned off cloud sync, tried without dlc downloaded, reinstalled graphics driver and previous versions (used ddu as well), and tried many other troubleshooting methods that I cant recall at the moment. Yet nothing works, I don't have this problem with any other games. I have no save file in my app data, so I cant play with any of those files.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does this have something to do with cloud saves or syncing? I should mention that I have gotten this game to work before, months ago, and did not have previous saves uploaded to steam cloud. Never had this issue either. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm look up the official unofficial server mod. They give you a launcher that lets you open the game essentially through running a.exe file :)

idk if its only a windows 11 thing actual, been too long since ive used windows 10, for me it was one of the exploit protection settings under app and browser control in the windows security settings, i had to go to program, add the dark souls 3 exe, and click override under the mandatory asl option and switch the on to off

I've disabled all security on my computer including all content protection settings, so everything on my pc is excluded from it, at least I hope. I'm on windows 10, the last thing I have yet to try is a windows reinstall so maybe that'll fix it. I'll check my registry for any mistakes I may have made involving content protection settings or revert them all entirely to their defaults to see if it fixes it. Thank you.

Run the game, afterwards execute the dxdiag command and save the log. Ctrl + F and search for dark souls 3, see if there's anything suspicious

just to double check, cause this is exactly how it was for me, you disabled all the stuff in the exploit protection settings, like if you just click the windows key then search exploit protection its those ones, mainly the mandatory aslr one?

Yes, I disabled them for my entire system essentially. If I go to exploit protection through my search bar, I only get error messages because its all disabled through registry changes.

you're real serious about disabling that stuff huh, im not sure then, but yeah maybe reverting the registry changes and maybe just disabling them through the settings themselves might fix it

yo, just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I had this problem with DS3 but also some other games, some of which are quite old so I gave up on finding a fix for them, and disabling these exploit protections has gotten me running more than just DS3!
