What to buy
With the Steam sale going on, I was thinking about buying DS3, but I'm out of the loop for what's going on with DLC and whatnot. And with all the confusion that DS:R vs. PtDE and DS2 vs DS2: Scholar, I figured I'd ask.

What do I need to buy to have a "complete" product and be able to join the broadest multiplayer community? What exactly is the season pass, and is that different from the DLC? Please give recommendations. Thanks!

The season pass gives both DS3 DLCs rather than buying them individually, I’m not 100% sure but I think DS3 also has the most active multiplayer

ds3 + season pass.
Season pass include both dlc
just researched this and apparently buying the season pass merely provides you with a discount for the dlc (ashes of ariandel and the ringed city) by putting them all in one bundle

Incorrect: I purchased the deluxe version with the season pass and steam tells me I own and is installing both dlc's with the base game.

DS3 most definitely has most active multiplayer, Dark Souls remastered lags a decent chunk behind, and dark souls 2 lags behind that slightly
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Scholar consistently has more players than DS:R.

Thanks for that. Everyone was saying DS3 + season pass, which is technically correct, but I had not noticed that Deluxe Edition is exactly that. Thanks all, really.
