In DS1 you have your estus, and that's about I think. You can't even move while healing, making healing a very important decision requiring timing. In DS3, you can move while healing which doesn't really help avoid an attack if you poorly time a heal, but it keeps things moving which fits with the faster pace. You also have Siegbrau and divine blessings, some miracles if you are running a faith build, as well as some rings and blessed items that will regenerate health over time. Life gems really just feel unnecessary and make combat way too easy imo.
As far as hp going up each level goes, I feel like it kinda defeats the point of having vigor as a choice to level up to begin with. But adp makes health redundant anyway so...
i agree with dust here. lifegems are far too easy to farm, thus making it far to easy to just facetank and heal through most fights of ds2. i did a playthrough of ds2 a few weeks ago and i stopped using lifegems when i had 5 estus because of it felt cheap to use them.
the health going up with each level thing always confused me and just made me not level vigor for simple offline (no pvp at all) playthroughs.
ADP is just a bad idea. i mean ds1 had a stupid stat aswell (resistance), but that ♥♥♥♥ was just useless and could be ignored. ADP on the other hand... it's just so important to get it to a certain level so you can have with the combat....bad idea
It leady to ds2 being both super easy and super unfair.
Maybe one of the reasons why the game didn't click with most pepole.
The Fume Ultra Greatsword is pretty neat though.
i can actually understand, why some people prefer d2 over the others, since it does some things better/different than ds1/ds3. i really love the idea of powerstancing for example and would love to see that again in later fromsoft games, but more polished and balanced. i also like ds2's funny gimmick weapons which can snipe people over ridicolous distances
i don't even want to bash ds2, since i can see why some people prefer it and the estus vs lifegem thing is just a matter of taste.
i also know how healing items work in demon's souls (same for bloodborne btw) since i played it. i always saw estus as an improvement, but again, thats my opinion, not fact. i actually prefer ds2 over demon's souls
