Is everyone just using Honest Merchant?
Saw a dozen low level players with armor and weapons not fit for their level (especially dragonslayer stuff), have you guys no shame or Honest Merchant is just that common now?

Having logged 200 hours in dark souls 1, 2, and 3 on the Playstation consoles and mostly in offline mode (I don't pay for online features), I am excited to dabble with modding of these games on PC. Honest Merchant is one of those mods that you play with after you have essentially 100% the game previously and just want to mess around.

Also gear doesn't make you a good pvp player, skill does. Now if you use cheats like infinite health in pvp, well you suck.

if they have prisoner, favor+3, havel+3, life+3, dragon slayer axe, avelyn and the max amount of estus it sure gives them advantages, I had an invasion where the guy had all of this and I made him use 6 estus - smouldering lake level 40, the normal amount of estus for an invader should be about 4 or 5 -, more than me the host

so basically we had the same amount of skill - I was a little better to be honest because I used 5 estus and he used 6 - but he almost won - I entered the boss fog after he used the 6th estus - because he had the max amount of estus and rings, so yes, gear don't make you a good pvp player but gives you advantages against people at the same level as you
Im not going to say that honest merchant twinking is fair. Im going to say that standard twinking is far more skill based then people think.
There's this thing called dunning-kruger effect, where people aren't knowledgable or competent enough to know that they AREN'T knowledgable or competent.
Chances are, if the person has better gear then you but are trash at the game, skill can more then make up that difference. Because these people mistakenly think that gear is all that matters in pvp, or in other words, they are too incompetent to realize they are incompetent.
The biggest issue is skilled pvp players going to the start zone because that is the zone where new players are most likely to be playing. New players are highly likely to be bad at pvp, so someone with a lick of pvp sense can take decent gear and just go to town. However, these people are also very likely to lose to someone who knows how to pvp effectively because skill can overcome gear.
This is very much a situation where someone who uses poop and firebombs can naked dagger against a heavy hyperarmor greatsword riposte spammer and see success. How many of us have fought against a nude man with a club and gotten just absolutely demolished because they have superhuman reflexes and genius level knowledge of the games mechanics?
So again, twinking isn't the problem. Its smurfing. And honest merchant is essentially cheating.

I also should mention that, no matter how many good hits you get in, no matter how much estus they use, how little you use, if you LOSE, they beat you. And if you lose, chances are that person was better then you. Lack of estus use isn't a metric to indicate how skilled someone is at pvp. I'd argue that getting more estus off successfully, without being punished for it, and then winning the fight is more of an indication that the opponent underestimated you, adjusted, and won. Which takes alot of skill. And letting someone get that many estus off is a mistake made by someone who doesn't know how to punish it. Which is a lack of skill.

You was doing OK until you called the mod a cheat. Using a 1 shot insta kill hack or giving yourself revive or invincibility using cheat engine is cheating. Honest merchant really doesn't matter as you stated a skilled player will destroy a player even if they used the mod.Even a half desent player can destroy a player using the mod because usually they haven't learnt the game anyway

This is not CS GO where skill is the reason to win or lose, this is a ACTION-RPG and being a RPG items also counts. He had more HP and Stamina than me even though we should be at the same moment in the game, why? Because of rings that he has access with honest merchant, this gives him an advantage and like I said we had almost the same skill, me being a little better, he almost won because of items, plain and simple - because I don't know how to punish estus and he also didn't know.

But you still won regardless of what he had that's the point. Doesn't matter if your fully loaded a semi skilled player can beat these loaded players

According to 7.3 of the EULA Honest Merchant is cheating. Listen, don't try to sugar coat it. No one cares if you're cheating but be real with yourself. If you use a mod that gives you an unfair advantage then yes you're a cheater and most likely unskilled at the game. :lunar2019coolpig:

Yeah I dont understand why its so hard to understand that there's a difference between squeeking a naked sl15 firebomber past midir to murder the ringed knight for his paired greatsword vs being able to buy it from the firelink shrine at 300 souls or however much it is.

I couldn't care less. It won't save HM users from my dung pies.

Besides, equipping the "best" gear right off the bat won't make someone suddenly a good player.

Exactly. And 2 of the best rings you get mid game the hornet ring and pontifs right eye. The +3 rings don't beat a semi skilled player

They get my +10 Heavy Reinforced Club. Nothing funnier than bonking cheaters with a tiny club. Plus that R1>R2 true combo is so beautiful.

I'm sure everyone got intimidated by your PvE tactics :zaglol: :zaglol:
Nah, try it out yourself if you're comfortable or skilled enough to play with an off meta weapon or watch ChaseTheBro do it. You can true combo Reinforced Club R1 into R2 on other players.

You said you were invading so obviously the host had more HP - the difference is already there by design. Stammina rings don't work well at lower levels(percentage increase) so you can forget that. Armor can matter a lot but you didn't mention that.
It's not about punishing estus - it's about the blender. If you can't kill your enemy fast when you're better and the connection is good then you're simply just not good at invading.

No, you got confused the original comment was about me invading the other comment was about a guy that invaded me.
Happened again, level 25 Forest, I got the invader to 100 hp but the guy had the max estus flask, one chug and he got to full hp whilst I have only +1, at this point I'll just run towards a boss fog because those players are actually quite bad at invading so they don't catch me.

You guys really don't have any shame.

If you're that bad then just play offline, scrub.
Na he just likes to use cheats like 1 shot kills and tries to justify it by saying its equal to honest merchant :steamfacepalm:
But it is equal to honest merchant.

Since when do you need to level up intimidation skills in Dark Souls? Are we even playing the same game? :cuphead:
