Ringed City crashes my PC

I've been playing DS3 with a fresh character for the past week without any issues till today (Dreg Heap into Ringed City).

In Dreg Heap the frames already started dropping, no issues at all in other locations or frame drops etc. After defeating the Demon Prince and continuing past the boss bonfire, as soon as I reach the mountain peak where you should be taken to the Ringed City, my whole PC freezes in an instant (black screen, everything freezes and isn't working anymore), this happened now two times in succession.

After that, I lowered the settings to the lowest and also went into windowed mode -> Game boot directly to the peak (where the before-mentioned Gargoyle should take you to the Ringed City) and my PC froze a third time, no difference at all, except for my BIOS now doing a full reset

I've been searching the internet for answers and only read of similar problems, went through benchmarks and system checks just to confirm - my PC is just fine, all my other games work without any hassle, it's just as soon as I press "Continue" and I load into the area, that my system fully crashes and is done for good.

So not only am I not able to continue on playing DS3, also my PC is at risk and I can't recover my character anymore.

Has anyone encountered similar issues or found any solutions to my problem?
I could login via a friend's PC just to recover my character and return to Firelink Shrine, no question, but furthermore I'm not able to finish the Ringed City DLC and this is to be honest really offputting.

still its weird that it makes your whole pc crash, blue screen or just system freeze?

it's a full system freeze, nothing will work or react anymore, but it's not a blue screen. already verified them as well as playing windowed on lowest res, everything was fine, game still crashing my pc.

try verifying your game files with steam

as pointed out above, i verified my files already, didn't help

I got an R9 390, the game had no issues until ringed city where that specific transition cliff is
