Swords v/s Spears
Interesting educational video which FROM should take a lesson. Especially in designing shield mechanics.

Spears have better range and work exceptionally well with the Leo ring.

Spears also have exceptional speed in poking. I am happy with the way spears are designed in DS3 but I am not happy with the way shield are designed.

It is highly unrealistic to kick a shield and break a shield guard. Even more unrealistic is to apply a "special art move" and completely bypass or break a tower shield class with a longsword, for example. That is fantasy. Only possible in FROM mechanics.

Take a look at the way a spear is being held during a shield up animation. The spear points to the side !!! A spear should be held pointing to the front of the shield. That is why you see these pesky sword rushers coming in front of you to kick freely. Why ? Because the spear is pointing to the side.

I don't have a problem with the fantasy rpg elements of the game but some weapon realism won't hurt in the process either.
rolling trough active flames... that aint fanasy, thats straight up not possible and your complaing about shield mechanics

Look, I don't know about which flames you talking bout, but I am talking about this is not a way to hold a spear and a shield.
its because its the same animation as all other weapons in the game, why would they think to make only it different?

Is this a way to hold a greatsword in combat situation ? On your shoulder ? Are you on a parade or what ? This is very inefficient way to hold a greatsword in combat. Much more difficult to start a swing from your shoulder as you need the max centrifugal force to swing such a weapon.

dude, you shouldnt be able to wield it in the first place...
so either your a troll, or you dont get that this isnt a realistic game at all.

I told you before I am not against the fantasy elements in rpg games. We need dragons and scary creatures. But when you make a combat game you should stick to earth physics.

Remember the transition from Earthen Peak to Iron Keep ? Molten iron in the sky ? What kind of physics is that ? What kind of physics is parrying an ultra with a buckler ? It is all wrong.

This isn't Mount & Blade (also watch Skallagrim's video on M&B, even that super-detailed simulator is way off,) nowhere has From Software ever stated Dark Souls is an "Earth Human Medieval European HEMA Combat Simulator"

So are you proposing that we should forever disregard our own human experience and knowledge and succumb to whatever broken physics FROM can devise and never question the validity ?
