Are the darkwraiths before Abyss Watchers supposed to be OP?
No matter how high I stack my poise (which is around 50 maxed) they stagger me every attack. Even when we trade hits, or I hit them while they are mid-attack, I still get hit and staggered.

I really don't understand poise in this game and its getting annoying.

Poise is only useful with heavy weapon swings sometimes. If you can roll, roll around and backstab. 2ez. If your sword is long then roll around and poke. 2ez. If you're a mage idk why they're able to hit you in the first place.
Also new poise rules don't apply to enemies. They're rock solid machines.

Poise is Hyper Armour. As said above, its only active when swinging with heavy weapons. Unless you have a UGS or something, don't trade. Gotta dodge/block their attacks.

Well is there any way to prevent from being stunlocked? Some enemies such as the darkwraiths can get in 2 swings before I regain control of my character, and that just seems retarded

Yes, Darkwraiths in general are supposed to be brutal.

As annoying as that may sound, don't get hit. Barring that, hyper armor through their attacks with appropiate weapon attacks.

Darkwraiths, like any other enemy, have obvious wind-ups indicating what attack they're going to start, and usually follow the same attack patterns. Its all a matter of knowing how their combos work, and dodging them properly.

They're preparing you for whats coming up ahead. Bosses will ♥♥♥♥ you up if you don't dodge their attacks and/or combos properly.
