Ds3 how to have both modded an unmodded version?
I have ds3 installed in two different drives. First installed it on my external drive and there i installed the cinders mod, and then after unplugging my external drive i installed it on my main drive. Having two family shared accounts one with the C drive as the main library folder and the other one with the external, the problem is that both ds3 exe files just boot the one installed at the c drive no matter at which account i log in and before i installed it in the C drive it worked perfectly. Is there anyway to force steam to launch from a specific directory, like editing the acf files or something like that?

You can try the Mod Manager, with which you can enable and disable mods by renaming or removing a file of the manager, you can find it on the NexusMods website

if you have both links DS3 game links in steam you can link them to different executables I think

another option is to do it from game properties in steam, set launch options, of the game and type

%command% "path_to_yourgame_executable" in quotes

i do have 2 different shortcut on my desktop but after i installed it on the main drive they both just open that version, even if i go to the external drive directory and from the open the exe file doesn't work, ill try out the mod manager and the methods slayerSamanosuke suggested later, thanks for replying to everyone

ok i just tried the set launch option but it didnt work, cause both executables open the version that is installed in the C drive. Like i said before i installed it in the external drive where it worked perfectly with the mod, and after unplugging the external drive i installed it in the internal drive without the mod, but when i replugged the drive both executable file in both install directorys link to the installation on the c drive. Ill try now the mod manager.

This might be crazy, but my pee brain thinks you can just change the directories a little, to make it work. Steam looks at a your game's path, for example:"C:\Steam Library\steamapps\common\Dark Souls 3"

I think you simply need to have both versions on your storage drive (C: example), and change the name of a single folder (effectively swapping the paths).

1. Modded DS3 -> C:\Steam Library\steamapps\common\Dark Souls 3 modded
1a. Rename the Dark Souls 3 modded folder to "Dark Souls 3" when you want to play the modded one
1b. Rename it back to "Dark Souls 3 modded" when you want to play the original game
2. Original DS3 -> C:\Steam Library\steamapps\common\Dark Souls 3
2a. Rename Dark Souls 3 folder to "Dark Souls 3 Original" whenever you want to play the modded one
2b. Rename it back to "Dark Souls 3" when you want to play the original game again.

With this setup you may launch original DS3 from Steam, and whenever you want after changing the folder names-- play the modded DS3 from Steam.

well at the end of the day installing and uninstalling the mod is much easier, you only have to put a few files in a different folder, you put some files in the install directory to install it and if you can create a folder there "mods" maybe if you throw the files in there the mod is uninstalled
