Sellsword Twinblades one handed?
I just started with DS3 and I'm a bit stuck at the second bonfire in the High Wall area. Having a tough time progressing.

I played a bit of DS1 so I was bored of a knight with longsword and therefore thought I would try the Wanderer with the twinblades because I wanted something different. The thought process was - let's try some dex weapons, fast attacks, less tanky more dodgy.

I am finding that those knights with spears mop the floor with me and I'm starting to regret the character start. I quite dislike the idea of dual wielding so I've been using the blades one handed with a shield. Is that just a terrible idea? They are +2 right now and I hesitate to go any further - tried the longsword without upgrades and it still feels more efficient, I can actually sometimes kill knights.

Is it worth it to upgrade the twinblade as such or should I just switch to another weapon? I'm not super married to the pure DEX idea, I could go with some faith or any fast onehanded weapon too as long as I don't just rerunthe DS1 quality longsword experience.

Sellsword Winblades are better with the L1/Left Bumper combo in two handed. If you have trouble with enemies that you can't break through the shield, farm the Lothric Knight Sword (Or buy from Greirat) and infuse to Sharp as it can break all shields stability from enemies and has an S scaling in Dex

It looks like you just need to get better at the game, if you can't kill those knights it might be because you are not accustomed to the controls. DS3 is very different from DS1 because the combat is fast paced and the rolls do not use that much stamina so you can evade a lot of times.

Sellsword twinblades are a very good weapon choice against giant-sized enemies and human-sized enemies, but for everything in the middle you might have some troubles and you need to build up experience.

The only reason you might use them one handed tho is when you have a parry shield and you are able to parry enemies, otherwise stick with two handed also because the best moves of these swords are from the left side of the controller

Sounds like the twinblades aren't worth one handing so I might look into a different weapon. I wonder if titanite shards are hard to come by in this game; or can I afford to upgrade a couple of weapons, and decide to what I definitely switch to, a bit later?

Without any spoilers, I can assure you that Titanite shards are VERY easy to come by. I would not be frugal in your titanite usage whatsoever. The only thing I would be wary of is upgrading anything to +10 using a slab. There is a very limited number of slabs per playthrough.

Best dps weapons with that L1 spam along with low stamina cost make them one of the best PvE weapons, specifically against bosses.

PvP they're alright, but you'd find problems with getting parried and people poising your attacks. Though they're still a fast CS, so even just being reactive will have you destroy slower weapons. Still have pretty insane damage with the true combo.

I personally dislike using them, like the drang hammers more.

Well, I switched to the longsword to get to the boss and had a much nicer time. But I have to admit, I tried the twinblades on the boss and it was easy peasy. Much easier than fighting the knights. Now I am conflicted.

There’s your problem, trying to use them for pvp lol. Everyone knows winblades suck in pvp, but in pve i dare say they’re the best weapon there is.

The knights are only giving you trouble because they turtle behind shields. The majority of enemies in this game don’t do that. Twinblades will melt most enemies and bosses with little effort. It’s many speedrunners weapon of choice

Ugs are too slow for my taste. And yeah that’s true, most of my playtime is pvp. But it’s still fun to go back and run through the game on occasion

Dunno man, with a dex-int build and crystal blade or darkmoon blade spamming l1 it's a guarantee win if the opponent is not a skilled parrier or if he has a big shield with high stability.
This means more than 50% of the playerbase already.
