How to avoid getting banned in 2020?
Excluding the obvious reasons to get banned like cheating in online, and mods that affect the online directly; how to avoid getting banned?

Could the use of mods in offline/single player result in a ban? etc...

well you shouldn't be that concerned. though we do always bring up the topic of hackers, the situation is kinda exaggerated. hackers are very uncommon lol. i've been playing the whole game online for almost 300hrs now and have barely met about 2 hackers in my adventures, all of which weren't interested in the malicious hacks and used 1hit daggers or infinite hp instead. i've yet to use my backups, but i still keep them there any time i start a pvp session anyway.

Hackers are one of the reasons, yes, but I wanted to play the game with some quilty of life stuff like, a bit darker environments [1. ReShade], a borderless window to switch between opened apps faster [2. Borderless Gaming], and with actual PC icons {i.e. [E] for interact} [3. igp11s].

So that's more 3 reasons to be worried about and according to this {and some other discussions that I found throughout the years about bans}:

I'm better off playing the game in offline mode forever.

a, yes i forgot about that. well, in my opinion it would still be worth to just play the game without the retextures. online shenanigans are fun and totally worth playing with.

If you're offline, then you cannot be banned.
If you're online, then you can be banned only if the game files are modified at any way. Most of the mods will do that, if not every one of them. This also applies to game save file alterations since this is the place where your equipment is stored.

I've set the game to online, however, I'm not planning to play online, but just see the other players messages, etc, and I'm using only one mode that changes the texture of xbox controls icons to PC icons, would that still count as a violation and result in a ban?

The game has been out for 4 years now, and I'm sure that all sorts of bans have already occurred to some players, so that's the reason why I'm asking such a question.

May or may not. There is no really much cohesion in banning policy. I remember some complaints of people that claimed they were banned for nothing or they have some encounters with cheaters earlier. There are cheaters still, yes, yet you can always try. In case of PlayStation, things might be different, though.

Anyway, see this [how to request a ban removal]:

I understand, then I'll just play it and see what happens I guess, thanks for replying and for sharing that link 👍🏻.

Unfortunately u have to use mods to prevent hackers, and mods could get you banned. It happened in the past with older versions, but who knows.

Pro tip. Use an alternative version of the game to mess with mods. Dont put mods in your game except if they 100% safe, like wex dust or watchdogs

I've completed DS3 multiple times till now, but this is my first online playthrough, could you enlighten me on why would I want to prevent hackers? Can't I just set a password or such a thing?

if there's a video, topic or a discussion about this very subject [DS3 and Hackers], I'll be glad if you send it.

Watchdog's 1.0.3 could ban. The versions after that have been tested over many banwaves and are proven to be completely safe.

I'm using only one mod, that changes the "texture" of controls to kb/m, that mod requires the usage of "iGP11", could this mod result in a ban?

I don't know, what do the creator say about that?

Passwords won't keep people from your world. They only affect who you choose to summon in your world.

"Invasions" are the biggest feature of online play. People can use the red eye orb (and some "covenants" fir area-specific invasions) to intrude the world of some random player in their area. Their task will be to kill you for a reward. If you are embered, you have a slight chance to be invaded. If you have phantoms, this greatly increases that chance, and if you summon multiple phantoms with dried finger, you'd be encountering invaders one after the other. Unembered state means you cannot be invaded.

Hackers exist, and now they can force themselves into your world. That is bad on its own, but lately the hackers have been using the very anticheat that was supposed to ban them as a weapon. They can force items into your inventory, which will ban you if you do not quickly wipe the save. The hackers, ofcourse, leave ban-free.

To prevent this, the community has created the watchdog mod. It prevents this famous item injection hack, while also preventing a whole bunch of other malicious hacks. And if anything ever goes wrong, they also have an automatic backup program that creates one every time you invade/get invaded. That way, you can just altf4 and replace the save to nullify any malicious effects that pass through watchdog. Download the latest version here:

(Note: watchdog clashes with most other mods. You'll probably have to turn off your reskin mod. Im fairly sure it would ban you anyway. I hear someone got banned for using a borderless window mod the other day. Its nit worth the risk. Also note that watchdog is completely safe and will not ban you if used alone.)

"iGP11" is the 2nd most download mod on NexusMods, with almost 400 comments, the only thing I found people is asking my same question 😅, as for the creator, he didn't mention anything.

Used iGP11 plenty since release to replace textures and to use some shader effects, passed countless banwaves just fine.

I see, is the latest version that you mentioned is "1.0.10 (beta)"?

I'm also using "Borderless Gaming" to play it in borderless screen 😅.

it always makes me laugh when i see ,,smart,, coments like uuu you cant get ban if you are offline. well guess what genius according to official bandai namco webside YOU CANT SO STOP TALKING ♥♥♥♥ AND GIVING PEOPLE FALSE INFORMATION what is punishble and what isnt if you have no idea about it.

Is it possible to get banned for offline-cheating?

Yes, you can get banned for 'offline cheating'. As soon as you come back online, your account will be flagged as cheating and will be banned for data not matching with server expectations.
