Is this game worth without DLC?
Hi!
I'm thinking about getting this game after ~200h of the original Dark Souls. I loved it, and I got to play a bit of DS3 in a friend's house and really liked it. The problem for me is that I don't have enough money for the Deluxe edition or the DLC, so I would be only buying the base game for now, until I save up a bit more. I like PvE more than PvP, but I also want to start doing PvP, because I never had the opportunity in DS1. Is the game still enjoyable without DLC?

Sure. You can always have someone drop you item from the dlc if you want. You'll find plenty of both PVE and PVP here.

it is. but it's been a year since the release and u can find this game 50% off in most retailers. I would buy the dlc if I were you but if u really cant buy it then yeah go for the vanilla

Of course. I logged a good 300 hours in it without the DLC. The second DLC is better than the base game's content though. It's worth picking them up at some point via Season Pass.

If you can wait a bit longer you can grab this game for 50% off or more.
Got mine with DLC's for ~40 € during the Steam Summer Sale.
Currently the base game costs 60€ on Steam without the DLCs.
But yout good to go just with the base game. When buying the DLCs extra I would recommend to buy the Ringed City DLCs for maximum value and fun. :penny:

I'm already buying it for 20€ from a retailer. Anyways, I'll buy the Ringed City whenever I can and Ashes of Ariandel after that one (Unless they put the Season Pass on sale, then I'll buy the season pass)

Thanks for the responses, see you in Lothric!

if you can find the 'Fire Fades Edition' in a store it will only cost 40 Euros and it contains both DLCs+ the base game

I would reccomend season pass. Many people said ashes was terrible. It was actually a super fun DLC, nice and compact. Not worth 15 dollars though for its size. But any disappointment you had with ashes you can wash away with Ringed city. Also ashes has friede (freaking amazing boss) and arena. Has 2 bosses but I like to see Vilheim as a boss/ mini boss. It just sort of feels wrong to play Ringed city without ashes. But if your short on money and want at least one get Ringed city for more content

The way I see it, for £3 extra, it provides MUCH more content than The Sunken King does. Which is why I don't understand why it was so hated.

Because of cost. But I loved DLC, especially the corvian settlement, really made me feel like people actually lived in the DS world. And I loved the level design of it, hopping on Roofs like a platformer

I get that, but like I said, the Sunken King was starved of content, but that still has VERY POSITIVE ratings. 16 weapons, 4 armor sets, 2 bosses and a full arena vs 8 weapons, 2 armor sets, and 3 bosses, including a throwaway NPC gank.

Probably because people are nostalgic and say that the previous games are better. If they are you can go back to the previous games. Ashes took a much nicer approach which also happened in RC. They made everything open and added sub little paths and secrets in the huge expanse. Again I use corvian settlement, this area uses verticality to its advantage, and is basically 3 corvian settlements stacked ontop of eachother. The room of flies was all open, and everything was outside (to my hearts delight). Before CGT that area is completely open and an awesome way down. Ashes they really used verticality too make it seem so much bigger

Yeah. It essentially acted as one open map, which was very cool for co-oping. The only cut-off points were both bosses.

and those were at the end so you still didn't have to re summon phantoms to complete the area.

It's worth it without dlcs. Plus if it's about pvp and gear, people can drop you dlc weapons anyway, so you just have to find something nice enough if you want a particular dlc weapon.
Regardign dlcs, get the season pass, you'll want both dlcs. First and foremost becouse both are good, second becouse Ringed City is basically a continuation of Ashes of Ariandel, so you'll want to play that first if you're interested in story.
Granted Ashes is a little shorter and weaker than RC, but it's still pretty good, plus it's not that much shorter imho, it's just that there's no boss halting your progression at any given point which makes it a much smoother ride until you arrive at the final boss.

The base game is great, so yeah, you can totally pick the game up now and get the season pass later. Or, if you're patient enough, you can wait until it goes on sale again.
