Charging Storm Ruler

I can't get storm ruler to charge up. It works the first time but before I can charge it again I'm dead. I can spend over a minute between Yhorms feet in L2 stance and it never charges. Eventually he kills me. I'm on about my 20th attempt. Anyone else had this. I watch videos and the sword charges in 5 or 6 seconds. It charges the first time while Yhorm crosses the room but after that no.

fairly sure it either keeps it's charge level or the level decays slowly. so charge for a bit, dodge and get some space, charge more. do that till its fully charged then fire.

as an aside no clue why the videos it seems to be so fast. might just be perception of time during combat vs watching combat.

my technique for yhorm:
1) charge storm ruler before fog door so that it is ready to go
2) enter fog door, lock-on and use the super attack immediately (it should reach him from across the room)
3) while he is down, back away while charging storm ruler again (try to get behind pillars to delay his pathing)
4) once storm ruler is charged again, you will probably still have little-to-no stamina due to your first attack consuming it all, so stop charging it and let stamina build while you jog around dodging him some more
5) wait for him to attack and miss then lock-on and use the super attack ASAP
6) repeat steps 3-5 until he's dead
note: you should probably avoid being near his feet if at all possible

i'm not sure what the cause of your problem is exactly, but good luck

thanks for your replies guys..I tried charging outside the boss room. I get the smokey sword but it doesn't charge fully...the bright ring. I go inside and it charges after the giant has run across the room and I dodge a bit. I go back in stance but it wont charge. I run round pillars and round the room...safest seems to be under his feet like the giants in cathedral, but I can't get it to charge again to the bright ring. eventually he gets me. If I hit him with storm ruler not fully charged no damage.

Are you holding it long enough?
YOu should get a flash after a few seconds (it takes a while).

While obvious, roll away if you are about to be hit and restart the charging.
