Dragonslayer axe

Hi,

I have this weapon now, not the greataxe, the plain one, wonder how you would compare it with the astora greatsword for instance.

What I have noticed, correct me if I'm wrong, is that this axe, sharp infused (as my astora sword) does less damage while lightning buffed than the astora GS, but hits faster, right?

Also, less range than the astora one.

So, what are your thoughts about it? I have this axe, gothard twinswords as well. Unsure what to use.

Really, it will come down to "what feels most comfortable to use, for you".
Range, speed, AR, weapon art, weight and aesthetics are all factors I tend to consider, when trying different weapons out.

While "Charge" has some interesting potential, I tend to prefer the generic damage buff of the Dragon Slayer's Axe's "Warcry", personally.

DA is a meme for its high damage at low levels when it is buffed on top, excels on noobkilling but not much else. It is rather mediocre and WA cancels buffs so it is basically R1/R2 only weapon if you want to buff it.

Astora is a unique UGS with poisy rolling attack and otherwise pretty useful moveset (just never use WA out of neutral). But it is UGS, so without fast backup/pair it will suck in many situations.

Gothards is an SS, that is the best weapon class in the game. It is not the best SS due to mediocre for its class damage but is the longest one. This is the strongest option if you would pick just one of three.

It depends on what soul level you play. At lower levels Raw infused dragonslayer axe is great combined with golden pine resin/bundles.

Gotthards twinsword are good at higher levelss with shrap infusion 40 dex or dark infusions 30 faith 30 int. Both of which you'll be able to achieve more effectively at SL70 and above.

So choose your SL and then choose your weapon.

Well, Raw dragonslayer axe with lightning blade is also great, but for lightning blade to be effective compared to bundles, you'll probably have to play at sl80 with +8 reinforcements.

OK thanks for the info. Killed someone today as spear of the church with sunlight spear and dragonslayer axe.

There are better SS than the gothard ones? Though "better" I think depends what for. You said there are others that do better damage, but with less range right?

I used sellsword twinblades before I started using the gothard one. I'm on my NG+, and I'm about SL 210. With 60 faith 40 int.

But then with a dark or chaos infused weapon I cannot buff it anymore. You mean GS not SS right? I also have it at +10 with a lightning buff. I find it better to not split damage too much. But seems the dragonslayer axe buffed makes more damage than this one...

If you have some Faith and Int, backing up your Str and Dex, take a look at the DrakeBlood Greatsword. It is not the /best/, but it is a light greatsword with a good spread of damage (I infused mine with Chaos) and decent scaling.

For the most part, it tends to mulch through the majority of the PvE content. PvP *shrugs* "crap-shoot"?

At SL200 and above, you can play however you want really.

Go for dragonslaayer axe with lightning blade since you can easily put 60 into faith.

Also, chaos/dark infusions will mostly do higher ratio of fire or dark damage. at higher level buffs wont matter much. Pick a weapon and play through. Give a sorcerer or faith build a try.

I have a faith build for now, using sunlight spear.

Why buff do not matter much at high level? Lightning blade adds like 300 damage to my axe.

What I found fun with the dragon axe against dog is that it throws them away. It does that just with dogs unfortunately :)

a mace and executioners greatsword has that knock effect on all enemies. since you're a faith build go for a blessed or lightning infused mace.

Blessed does less damage right? Except on undead. So I wonder if this is a good choice.

weapons which have inherent elemental damage scale very well actually. there is negligible difference in AR at high level e.g. dragonslayer axe and lothrich knight GS also drakeblood GS.
