What’s your build? I’ll throw out a few weapons you can try
(Also note that many heavy weapons are parryable, when it comes to PVP.)
Question is what do you mean by best?
If you say most efficient, then IMO - longsword THE most efficient weapon in a whole game not just base one.
LKS goes shorty after with slightly less damage, higher range but also higher str/dex stat-investment which is not in its favour since meta is dark/chaos infusion.
-Speed of attacks/swing speeds
-Movesets and range
-Weapon art
-Stat requirements for low-mid level purposes
-Buffable
-Hyper armor class (Greathammer/Ultra/Greatsword/hammer)
Honestly some of the higher dmg weapons are about the same in the end in terms of number of swings.
"So, I want to hit hard. Well if I hit hard, im going to attack slowly. So im going to need health, and ill need Super Armor to allow me to keep my attack going though the hits im taking."
That narrows weapon choices down quite a bit. Generally to Ultra Greatswords and Heavy Maces (yes i know they are Hammers, but come on). As I will be attacking slowly, im looking for strong single hits, so I will look at weapons that accent that a bit. Perhaps buffs, weapon arts, added damage effects, etc.
Once I figured out what my target was, what my playstyle was, and what my weapon pool was, I then found my weapon of choice: Vordt's Great Hammer.
I love Vordt's... but that constant cloud of frost on my screen drove me effing batty
1. Your bulid.
2. Your SL (some weapons have bad base damage but scale well with a lot of stats and crap damage weapon at SL120-140 bulid can be outclassing other weapons at far higher SL's).
3. Moveset. Light attack, strong attack, weapon art. Even best damage is useless if you cannot land hit.
4. Range. Like above.
5. Speed. Like above.
6. How well this weapon fits your playstyle.
7. Two faces of not exactly fashion also apply:
7a. If somethign pleases you visually a lot it can improve your mindset if you are not robot.
7b. Try Smelter Demon's helmet from DS2 or Ledo Greathammer from DS3 and you will learn that weapon which is outstanding in points from 1 to 7a blocks much of your vision and would be the best weapon in the game if you were Zatoichi but instead is only in Top 5 or 10 since you are not.
Try these 3 for start:
1. Lothric Knight Sword. It is weapon considered #1 by vast majority. Moveset, Speed, Surprisingly good scalling and it reaches further than you would expect from straight sword.
2. Black Knight Ultra Great Sword. After facing few black knights and getting it I wished I could marry this greatsword. Unfortunately she were cold as black steel and refused. Jokes aside
Very good moveset and even more enjoyable. Lacks neither damage or range and it feels like it is faster than other Ultras.
3. Dragonslayer Swordspear.
4. Moonlight.
5. Try out at least few magical summonable weapons.
Worse or better Top10's from youtube, recommendations from steam discussions and there are still hidden treasures.
