Strength main weapons
I'm just starting out with a new build and this time I wanted to go full strength build (min Dex reqs for weapons).

I've been looking up some weapons that I wanted to use (switching a bit inbetween for fun) but I wanted to get some feedback if it's worth investing in them.

(- Vordts hammer)
- Exile greatsword
- Dragonslayer greathammer
- Yhorms machete
- ringed knight paired greatsword

I am not that interested in regular UGSs .

I would also only use these for pve, I couldn't care less about pvp.

Aiming for 60-70 str investment.

Do you think these are pretty good options or are there other weapons that might shred bosses faster?

I think 66 is the highest worth going, 2 handing with that equals 99

Vordt has highest frostbite accumulation in game, and is still pretty strong weapon itself. I enjoy even at endgame. Exile is good for pvp and pve but may take a few points to dex to use. Yhorms has one of the longest if not the longest axe ranges, and has mad damage so its good. RKPGs are good too, but I think theyre boring and use a lot of stamina. Heavy halberds, twinhammers and heavy infused greatswords/axes/partizen are good too.
Id cap strength at 66 instead of 70 too, because 2h will bring you to 99.

Those are all pretty good weapons. If you're interested in some smaller, faster strength weapons, I would recommend the Butcher knife (S scaling in strength) and the battle axe with a heavy infusion.

If you have the dlcs, the Millwood battle axe is a great axe, and Ledo's Great hammer is a great... well, great hammer

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Ledos hammer does seem fun but it'll take me a while to get it I think :)

I'll give them all a try once I get them probably :)

You can also add the Splitleaf Greatsword and Harald Curved Greatsword to your list, and for one handed the Millwood Battleaxe is a real beast.
Nobby Feb 25, 2019 @ 10:09pm
Yeah the splitleaf was also something that peaked my interest. Plenty of options it would seem :)

Splitleaf Greatsword is one of the best weapons in the game, hands down. Great move set, weapon art spin can roll catch, deflect projectiles, break shield guards. Has a "true combo" of R1, L2, R2 that can do upwards of 1k damage, especially with a buff. You can carry a carthus flame arc buff for 0 weight, and a mild investment of 10 Faith 10 Int, which should be a grnd total of 2 points invested off the knight's base stats. Can 1 shot squishy builds, and with Halberd range, that is terrifying. I love the splitleaf. I hate playing against the splitleaf.

Heavy Claymore, buffed or unbuffed. Heavy Claymore is buffable. Even if you don't like Ultras, standard greatswords are a fun and varied bunch. Claymore is the best platform greatsword, all the staples, no frills. It pokes, it slashes. 2 hand it, it does vertical swings. Weapon art breaks shields. It is generally quoted as being an excellent "roll catch" weapon, but be careful of buzz words like that. It's move set is oft quoted as "fantastic." I personally agree. The Claymore is also an exclellent weapon to just git gud with, as it can be adapted to quality, dex, int, and faith builds equally well. One of the few weapons that works beautifully for PvE and PvP. Would run through that dragon fire every time.

Ring Knight Paired are a ton of fun, but good people roll them, can even punish that famous L1 with a backstab. I use them less often because of that.

When it comes to great hammers people tend to roll around them like they're fighting a boss. They're extremely fun, but when it comes to PvP, they can be negotiated. If you can get good with them, more power too you, I want to see more big boys. Best weapons for this category are Ledo's Great Hammer (moveset and damage), Vordt's (Frost and ease of access) , Great Club (weight and damage). Other populars are the Great Mace, which has a standard moveset for the class, but is buffable, which is nice. If you can hit them. The Spiked Mace is buffable, and has a notable combo of R1 L2 R1, which can do upwards of 1k damage (when buffed) and will build their bleed meter. People get nervous when you build their bleed and frost meters, so they play scared. This is an advantage to you. 2 handing these weapons makes you unable to be parried, at the cost of their speed being easy to punish.

Lastly, and this is cheesy, Strength opens the door for you to hide behind a big old shield. Use a Ringed Knight Straight Sword and the Curse Ward Greatshield, sit while they beat up on your shield and then hit them when they're not looking. Giant Door paired great shields can be used for this, kinda, and you can switch from the sword and big ass board to Giant Doors relatively easily. The Giant Doors are their own thing Fun as all hell, legitimatley hard to play against unless you're nimble, or chip. Nimble people get backstabs, chip people chip.

Ringed knight paired greatsword isn't a strengh weapon. It's a quality one. So are most UGS.
Halcius Feb 25, 2019 @ 11:15pm
It scales best off quality set ups, but 40 strength required makes a strength build required to use it. Which makes it a strength weapon. If that is untrue, please show me a compilation of your Dex/Int build's success with it.

Thx for the info.

Just wanted to point out that pvp isn't in scope here though. I have 0 interest in it and I play ds for the pve ;)

I don't run away if there is an invasion, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose but I don't go looking for it.

I was thinking about the flame arc buff. At minimal stats (10/10, which is a 3 point investment for my warrior) is it worth it when compared to resins?

Quality build is 40 str 40 dex. So of course it works on it. And it does better damage than on a strengh build.

If you do try the millwood axe you can get it pretty early on. Right after crystal sage if you blitz to the cathedral and go into painted world. I alternate between it and vorts hammer and was breezing through the game.

Please don't use the paired greatswords

They're quite bad. Unless the user has chinese tier connexion.
