Can't riposte?

I've been playing some pvp tonight, and I've run into the issue of my follow-up after a parry not riposting, but instead either missing or only doing normal damage. I was not mashing R1, I know it doesn't if you do that. Is that a lag thing or something else? I was right in front of the people I parried, so it couldn't be an angle problem.

What weapon are you using? And do you have a shield and if yes, do you hold L1 to block after parrying? I ask because, for example, you can't backstab people if you're blocking, so maybe it's the same for ripostes.

Nah. I parry, wait a split second so I don't screw up the riposte, and go for it. I do it within the allotted time as well so it isn't that I waited too long. Keep in mind this only happens sometimes, it isn't an always-type problem

Nah. I parry, wait a split second so I don't screw up the riposte, and go for it. I do it within the allotted time as well so it isn't that I waited too long. Keep in mind this only happens sometimes, it isn't an always-type problem

It may actually be an angle thing, as I've seen alot of parry gods in youtube always walk up and move into the person's front and slighly to the left to stand in front of them, often because the riposte hitbox is always a little off to the left because of the parry.

Hmm, alright. That's kinda weird that that's a thing. Man I love the pvp in this game but it can be really inconsistent

Riposting doesn't work on elevators. Or at least on the one to Anor Londo.

Oh yeah there's also this.

Btw, there's no need to wait a split second. You can press L2 to parry and then immediately R1 to riposte just as soon as the parry sound starts, and you will get the riposte.
