Can someone briefly explain me how poise works in DS3?
Honestly i really don't care about how the poise work in depth, i just need to know the very basic to avoid losing in pvp.
let me explain you my situation:
I am against this dude, looks like he has a normal armour if not with less equilibrium then me actually, but when we hit each other at the same time i get staggered meanwhile he does't, therefore he can keep attacking me and since i am staggered it's free hit on me.
some player really use this method as a way to win, there was a dude with a buffed alabard, he would increase the equilibrium, literally he would't care weather i was attacking or not, as soon as i would get close to him to attack, he would just attack back, stagger me and then hit me again, while me (with a weapons art) sometimes hitting him even 3 times i would't stagger him once.
what do i have to do? is that something on the stats? could it be for the health bar?

So to summarize how it works when it comes to PvP:
If your opponent has an Ultra Great weapon and you hit each other at the same time, you'll get staggered all the way from fist weapon class up until one class below Ultra Great weapons. And at the same weapon class it'll be determined somewhat by your poise stat.

So in order to avoid losing the poise battle in PvP: Don't trade hits with someone that has a bigger weapon than you.

pretty much the only way youre not gonna get staggered is with Unfaltering prayer my man, or perseverence. that way your poise health value is higher than what thier weapons can inflict, but even then its not foolproof. I hate to say it, but even though its not a totally useless stat, its also not one to completly bank on either.

Get 27 or so poise and you'll do ok, 40 poise if you want to be optimal, and 43 poise for the ultras if you're having trouble with those.

My numbers may be off, but they should be close enough 😛

Scince nobody is saying what you want to hear, small one handed weapons do not get poise, weapons that look unweildy one handed like hammers and greatswords, big weapons as well, use them two handed, and their swings will have hyperarmor. Select small weapons have it like the mace and the morning star when two handed, and any weapon with 'preserverence' as a weaponart gives you unbreakable poise for a few seconds.

Poise does not exist

Technically, the system of Poise that's currently used in DS3 actually came from DS2.

DS2 actually invented hyperarmor, to pair it along with the passive poise.

Now, DS3 uses hyperarmor as it's poise system.

If you really want to push it, DS2 technically caused DS3's poise system!

Therefore, you can blame DS2 for DS3 having "no poise"!
