Heavy Gem on Dagger?
I'm creating my first strength build and about to have fun with Vordts hammer. If I'm going to stay with purely strength, is it a good idea to make my dagger heavy too?

Sure why not?

It has A scaling so ♥♥♥♥ it.

Although it would be better to infuse it with fire.

Is having backup dagger something most players do? Oo I don't understand why'd you need a dagger on strength build, if only for a fun factor. Not being sarcastic here, as a new player I'm genuinely curious.
I've seen a few videos where people had a dagger on them on various builds. Why?

The basic Dagger infused with the infusion that doles out the most damage on your particular build is the best tool in the entire game for ripostes. This is the reason why most players carry a Dagger in their secondary slot. Chaos Dagger builds can actually one shot people.

Right. Daggers have a bonus to critical damage. Makes sense now.

although big weapons sometimes will do more damage with certain stat allocations

Using Pontiffs Left Eye in conjunction with a Heavy Dagger and Heavy Caestus. Level 21 unupgraded pure strength Warrior starter. It's a lot of fun hitting the crabs in the swamp for 550 plunge criticals and then following up with another 280 times 2 riposte damage. A poke with the dagger finishes things.

Use a fire dagger if you plan to use the hornet ring and a deep dagger if you do not.

When I upgrade, the damage will scale favorably with my pure strength. Split damage will not help me much against players that minimize the elemental and physical damage by 20-40%

The elemental damage will do more crit as opposed to purely physical damage. You could test it if you want to.

fire dagger for damage, big weapon for style
Although I hear that sometimes weapons, like the black knight ga, will one shot.

Well, to be precise, lets say, "on average" or "generally", because surely chaos/fire daggers are not the only option, chaos is not > fire every time, and dagger isnt > every other riposte weapon every time. It is much more complicated, but if we put it simple, yeah, chaos dagger is something you can get on any build if you don't want to min/max anything, and be sure you are dealing as much riposte damage as possible.
