What is the point of hollow infusion? (Madness)
All right, before any of you call me dumb or something, I know what hollow infusion does. It gives your weapon luck scaling and +5 luck, provided you're hollow. Now the real problem is, the luck scaling is bad completely random and inconsistent. Allow me to demonstrate.

On a build with 22 strength, 22 dexterity and 30 luck (boosted to 40 with 2 hollow weapons equipped, damage calculations take that into account), luck infusion is at best tied with normal, refined, sharp or heavy infusions. Most times it loses to one of these. With stats as low as those, luck still gets outshined. sometimes? Out of dozens of weapons I checked, I came to the shocking finding that the hollow infusion seems to be almost random. Mostly it seems that weapons with low or balanced scalings get more out of hollow infusion, whereas weapons with high or focused scalings get lower damage. But this doesn't seem to be consistent, for example carthus shotel gets more damage out of hollow infusion, even though it has high dexterity scaling and abysmal strength scaling. And while most weapons I tested get overshadowed by a 27/40 dex-focused build, the damage difference varies massively from just 10% on a halberd to nearly 25% on a flamberge. And the flamberge is an anomaly in another way too, it has lower scalings than the claymore across the board, but still benefits more from a sharp infusion than a hollow infusion on the luck build, whereas the claymore likes the luck. Except high scaling weapons like the clubs get better luck scaling???

All right, this turned into a kind of ramble as I looked around while writing this, and now my head hurts. I can't see any kind of pattern on hollow infusion and I honestly feel like I'm losing my mind. If anyone knows anything, please share, this is killing my brain.

it used to be the center of bleed meta

rip bleed pvp meta
i totally hear you it seems way less consistent.. i thought this before also when working on my bleed build and my mangrub staff build. i guess the results are partially reliant on your stats but also to do with the inherent scaling of the weapon?
if you infuse with hollow it doesn't totally get rid of the strngth/dex scaling, right? so you still get the bonus dmg off those stats even if you didn't put many points into those respective attributes. but say you infuse follower sabre with heavy (not that you ever would) it loses it's dex scaling all together and just gets an A in strength.
could be it's better sometimes because a hollow weapon with two C's and a hidden A is better than a single A. but compare that same hollow weapon one infused with something else that gets an S and a C or something and you would expect different results...
i've literally confused myself typing this out... makes sense in my head idk if it will to anyone else tho lmao
if you are going bleed build and you wanna bleed stuff hollow infusion + carthus rouge sucks now and bleed infusion is best for actually bleeding stuff.. just saying. tho on my magic/luck build hollow claymore buffed with crystal magic weapon via mangrub staff seems pretty awiiiight.

I know this, but it doesn't increase the status, does it? It only scales off the same thing, right? So for example with the flamberge it would just be better to use the sharp infusion right?

So in your head it makes sense in the sense that luck scaling is not related to the other scalings?
It would be the only thing I can think of that makes sense, just a shame it doesn't help at all in divining what weapons are good to infuse as hollow.

Also fextralife wiki says weapon buffs with grub staff always use 100 spellbuff, rip in spaghetti never forgetti.
yas you basically said exactly what i was trying to say but way less derpy. someone needs to make a list of all the weapons that benefit most from hollow infusion for builds with high luck//low strngth/dex.
also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rip, that explains some stuff. yea it's definitely not my most viable build for sure lmao xD note to self always read the fextralife before investing hours into making a weird build
