Best dagger infusion?
Hey, I know that the chaos dagger is best if you have points invested in faith and int, but is it possible to do a 1 shot riposte kill with a dagger when I have a quality build? 40/40 on both str and dex. I'm asking what would be the best infusion for this build on my dagger for it to become one shot kill. Thank you in advance

What you want is the highest AR possible, so if you're a pyromancer you choose chaos, if you're a mage you go crystal, if you're a filthy cleric you go lightning. For pure physical characters generally you'll go for a fire dagger, though on dex builds, and I suppose refined builds, then a sharp dagger can work. A fire dagger will beat a sharp dagger at 40/40, but I believe with a bundle or buff you might be able to beat the fire dagger on riposte and backstab damage.

Nice, finally someone who isn't an idiot and doesn't spout that "cHAoSDAgGeR" garbage around

Yeah, I see that all the time and it annoys me so much. If it's based on damage then why would a 66 strength user want a chaos dagger if they have 9 in int and faith?

Actually the people that say "cHAoSDAgGeR garbage" are correct it is the highest damage in most cases for most builds Str builds can get up to 2400+ with just a back stab and a few rings and it works for any build now ofcourse it won't work for all builds becuase of scaling so he is indeed correct on the scaling how ever if the OP is running a popular build they shoudl probably use the "cHAoSDAgGeR" it just makes more sense to use the dagger that does more damage considaring the dagger has a hidden crit chance than can be used via the chaos infusion

Except nothing can get even near 2400 damage on backstab or riposte, unless they're going full on hyper mode. Chaos dagger only works for pyromancers or dark builds, that's it. Also, daggers in general have a hidden crit modifier, and it's not just when you use a chaos dagger. So no, chaos dagger is not the be all end all, it does the highest damage out of all infusions, but again, that's only on a dedicated dark/pyro build. A crystal dagger on a mage beats a chaos dagger on a mage.

What matters for infusion is how much AR it has, hence why a fire dagger beats a heavy or refined dagger, since it has more AR. Which is why a fire dagger destroys a chaos dagger on a strength or dex build. If you have base int and faith for the knight (one of the most used classes) then a chaos dagger has 223 AR compared to the fire daggers 296 AR. Meanwhile a chaos dagger on a dark build (30 int and faith) you get 333 AR.

If we wanna go back to the mage, if you had 60 int and 9 faith then a crystal dagger has 317 AR, higher than the chaos daggers 282 AR.

Again, a chaos dagger can reach the highest AR out of all dagger infusions, but it only works if you have it on a dedicated build. Any other build and it'll be one of the worst infusions for critical attacks.

Nice, you're one of the delusional idiots who spread that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

No, that dagger NEVER has the highest crit output unless you a) have a build that makes its AR surpass other infusions and b) wear the hornet ring.

So, why do use people the Chaos Dagger? Answer: It can reach higher AR than Crystal etc. But if this infusion does NOT have higher AR compared to other infusions on your build, it's a worse choice.

So why do they use Chaos and not Dark, dark is a better damage type in PvP and you should put it on your "normal" weapons? Answer: The damage type dark is bugged in the crit calculation when the Hornet Ring is used. WITHOUT the Hornet Ring, the Dark/Deep Dagger will actually be MORE damaging than a Chaos/Fire Dagger.

Don't believe me? Well, play the game and find out that I'm correct.

Fire will do the most damage and won't one shot unless they have low health.

The black great sword and the sort, however, are more like to one shot.

So with my quality build I should just use like the black knight great axe instead?

Use whatever you find fun. I generally go with the greatswords, like the hollow slayer and black knight greatsword. On a quality build, the black knight greatsword has 1k+ damage for a repost, could one shot if you damage them enough.

The issue is that - unless you are good at menuswapping - a BKGA or the like is much harder to implement into a well working build due to weight reasons since the patch when armor poise started to matter. It also has the slower backstab windup so it's easier to escape from.

Unless you keep it on you at all times like I do.

Another thing to note, the REASON chaos does the most riposte/backstab damage is because chaos is glitched to do more damage than it's supposed to, but only with the hornet ring. Dark Infusion actually does more if you DO NOT use the hornet ring. No idea if fire and deep have the same bugs.

For a refined build I would def go sharp dagger if fire does not glitch out and do more damage than intended.

I don't think it's a bug, I think that chaos may have a higher crit multiplier with hornet ring. It's the same with other chaos weapons.

No, it's the other way around. DARK (as a whole damage type) is glitched. Chaos performs like intended. It simply has higher AR than Lightning or Crystal etc.
